Hello! Kinda of stuck between two tires.
I live in north west Florida, lots of washouts, river crossing, ruts, mud, clay and sand. While I like the look of a mud tire...and there is PLENTY of mud here so they would help, I also appreciate drive ability on pavement. I hit the trails about three times per week leaving me 4 on road.
So I’ve at least knocked the choices down to an M/T and an A/T
Cooper discoverer STT pro tire M/T
    or
    BF Goodrich A/T KO2

I am currently running BF Goodrich, and I like them but kinda want to try something different while handling decent on wet paved roads and off roading.
I can handle the back end swinging out a little I know how to control a rwd vehicle but I know with mud tires it will probably be crazier.
Any experience with either tire and or criticism...have at it! Help is appreciated!

I’ve also heard falken wildpeak at3 and cooper AT3 suggested.
    oof so difficult

The Cooper STT Pro's and Cooper AT3's have the same tread stock which has silica in it. Silica treads are know to be great in wet conditions. The KO2's are not so great in wet conditions but will be better for cold weather and winter. Falkens are kind of in the middle they are ok in wet and ok in winter but not reallt great at either but they wear very well and will last a long time. Have the BFG's you are currently running been fine in mud? If so I would suggest the Cooper AT3's since they will have very similar mud performance but better wet traction. Just my 2cent's

Wildpeaks are godly in the rain and snow but suck huge unwashed balls in mud.

    get the stt pro.

Let me make a little more difficult lol
Have you considered a hybrid tire like the Nitto Ridge Grapplers?

Grew up 45 miles east of Pcola, definitely would not go with AT unless you have a winch. I would go aggressive MT if you can handle not the best on road manner.

The BFG’s do pretty well in mud, haven’t had an issue yet. Wet pavement is a different story haha
I might try the coopers then! Thanks you!

MTs are really a good bit better if you deal with lots of mud. They are usually heavy and noisy, but they are way better than an AT in the mud.

I'm in Florida as well, running the Cooper ST Maxx. A huge step up from the AT3 but not quite as aggressive as the STT Pro.

I like them a lot off road, but to me: mud is mud, and tires and just tires... If you're in mud that's bad enough to get stuck in with Tire A and B, odds are that tire C isn't going to do all that much better. Yet you're giving up a lot of road comfort characteristic by going with "tire C" just to get that minuscule increase, if any, in mud performance.

My ST Maxx's have about 20k on them and have been getting progressively louder over time, making the truck more of a chore to drive than anything at speeds over 55mph. Not to mention that anytime you go with an E-load tire on a Tacoma, you can expect to feel like you're riding a wooden roller coaster. The smallest imperfection in the road are felt through the seat and steering wheel, and the smallest speed bumps becomes land mines... The second I get the chance, I will be letting these go and switching to a C-load KO2 (285/70R17).

I had an AT, but moved to the hybrid because I wanted something more aggressive that would still work as a daily and I’ve been really pleased with them. Never let me down.

I'd agree with the AT or Hybrid set up. I've been very pleased with my Duratracs, yet they look aggressive

20170101_111118.jpg I ran 35" STT pros on my 80 series Land Cruiser and loved them in the Mud and snow. They are a 10ply tire with a 3 ply sidewall so they gave me piece of mind when airing down. I plan to run 255 70R 17 which is a 6plt C load on my Tacoma.
