I'm looking for a truck cap for my 2017 Access cab. It brought back memories of my first aluminum cap years ago. Despite its kind of nasty appearance I really did like it. It was easy to remove was probably the biggest plus. Now 15 years later I'm looking around at aluminum caps and they don't seem to have progressed much. Still the same old wood-grain skin and square tubing.

Doesn't anyone make a more styled, better-looking aluminum cap?

They’re still ugly. Just find a nice fiberglass one.

Aluminum commercial caps, like Access Tradesman or ARE DCU, or the AluCab, are arguably more attractive. But they're not the lowest price option.

That looks like a fiberglass shell. You sprayed bedliner on the exterior?

SurfratTX, if you don’t mind. What brand of cap do you have and roughly how much?

I second the commercial options as well as looking a Alu-cab.

I bought the more expensive ARE Overland cap......it has a sliding window between the cap and truck cab and the same window is hinged to go down to clean between the truck cab window and the cap window. I also have the side windoors that when you open each one it autolights the LED strip lighting I have just above and interior to the windoors.
I had it on my 2016 TRD that ended up getting totaled because of hurricane Harvey.....I only got like a inch of water in the interior but USAA insurance said they would total it......they gave me more money that what I paid for it....hence a new truck.....2017 QS.
Which is why I ended up painting the cap with Linex. Before and after pics.
I originally paid $3200, shipped and taxes included.....for the cap. You can go to the ARE site to find a local dealer and they will give you a price.

I do like that aluminum cap though.......I had one years ago on a Iszuz pickup.......had windoors......loved that thing. It was my surf camper.

2nd gen steps. I like them. They are fairly light. It goes to auction.

Here is my Alu-cab weights in @ 117lbs without the cross bars. It has built in tracks inside and out so it's super easy to mount stuff like cross bars, roof racks or what ever you want inside like tables or cup boards and etc. I am sure you could special order one built with the "euro" diamond plate for the entire camper as I have seen pictures of one in the states... Any way I ordered mine with the textured sides and it has the diamond plate roof the sides look like it's rhino lined without all the extra weight.

I like the Alucab but would want it with side windows. Never seen one like that.

I love my Century (division of Leer, I think) aluminum camper shell. It weighs around 80 pounds. I like how you can customize/drill in. I mounted my muputrax traction boards up and out of the way. Carpet-lined with two overhead LED lights.

You’re gonna have to do SOMETHING with it. Square aluminum caps look like you’re about to pull up to a Jobsite to sell lunch to construction workers out the back.EC7388AE-E67C-4E37-B093-D08B83F4EFF5.jpg

I like it. Hideous and downright useful. 100% my style.

Does it stick up over the cab? Is there much gap there between the shell and cab?

Yep @phsycle ...function is king. It sticks up over the cab, but not much. There's no more gap between the shell and cab than what I had with my fiberglass shell on my old truck. I like the boxy look; it still looks like a truck, not an SUV.
