According to Fuelly.com 2011 was the best year for gas mileage for Gen 2 "V6" Tacoma's at 18.7 MPG. 2005 came in second at 18.0 MPG and with 2010 being the worse at 17.4 MPG. We need to find out what Toyota did in 2011 to get that better mileage. Of course it could be that 2011 owners are just different types of drivers.

I generally do about 70% highway (normally at about 80mph) and 30% city. My fuelly will read in my sig, but I think my 2014 is averaging 18.9 over 23,000 miles.

My 09 gets a steady 18 mpg combined driving and I definitely don't try hard to conserve.

I'd say as long as you drive conservatively it gets decent fuel economy.

Mine gets exceptional mileage when it's parked. There is nothing I can do for mileage when it's running......hence, the 3.5.

I thought about CAI but researched here first and the consensus was that CAI on a 2014 would do nothing. Saved me some cash. If gas goes back up over $4 I'll wish mine was more efficient, but at $2.50 per my 19mpg is just fine.

I think my truck gets angry and burns fuel just for the hell of it. I dont even pay attention to the gas anymore.

I have you both beat. According to my Ultra Gauge while at idle (as when stopped at a stoplight) I read 000 for Instant MPGs. Why three zeroes? Because the MPG is so high that the fourth digit cannot be displayed on screen. It was only programmed to display three digits at a time.

Seriously... you two need to get with it. I think it was my skid plates that improved my MPGs so much.

Well...I do use the cruise as much as possible to quell the "gun it urge" and limit the speeding tickets...does that help mileage. I refuse to drive it like it had a four...otherwise, I would have bought a four

Best way to resist the "gun it urge" is to get an ultra gauge and set an alarm at like 2,500 RPM. By default mine has an alarm at 4,700RPM. I learned that the other day when I had to pass someone. LOL It beeped really loud and flashed an alert on the screen. I usually drive slow enough that it shifts around 2,000 RPM or so. That's how I get the best mileage.

According to my Smartphone app, my 2012 has averaged 20.57 mpg over the last 3 months. My truck tends to average about 40 miles per day, mostly highway. The truck is stock (no engine changes) and I have the tendency to drive her somewhat faster than the posted highway speed limit.

So what we can surmise is that stock = best fuel economy.
