As I was reading this thread, I was thinking what this post is saying. Says it all. I've dealt with quite a bit of rust living in the rust belt. POR 15 is meant for RUST. It will eventually peel off that tiny spot mainly since it doesn't stick very well, if at all, to painted surfaces. Scuff the area up and hit it with some chassis paint or there's some paint out there that has is advertised as "rust barrier" On my 99 and 2000 4Runners I used products from KBS coatings which is a little more forgiving on painted surfaces, but again works best on areas already starting to rust. Just rattle can it with some VHT chassis paint, apply Fluid film as you've been doing and call it good.

It sticks fine, if you properly prep it. I've never had an issue, my 15, 17 and now 19. All living in the salt belt.

I've used it on multiple trucks in the salt belt, no issues. Did you not prep it first and then just put it on the rust spot? I know thats what they advertise or say you can do, but thats a load of cr*p in my opinion with any product. Its paint not super glue, which POR product were you using and application? My trucks never peeled with proper paint prep before using it, its almost a dead on match to the hitch paint which is a high surface rust / prone area. I have found it holds up better than rustoleum with proper prep which you alluded to. I think its superior in protection to rustoleum but everyone will have their opinions. OP said he's OCD, $15 is a meal at Chipotle...

The prep issues aren’t issues I’ve personally had. I’m saying much of the commentary out there about the product has been either people not applying it like it’s supposed to be applied, or claiming they did follow directions to a T and the product peeled regardless.

If you look at the components of the plain POR15 it’s more of a superglue-like material than any sort of paint, which completely explains why it basically becomes a slick glassy sheet when it dries. It also explains why when/if it peels, it peels off in sheets.

Don’t get me wrong, I think it has its applications, I just don’t think a clean frame is one of them. I’ve used it to refinish some OEM spare steel wheels actually and they came out fantastic. Also used it on my rust bucket 4Runner in certain large areas with good results, but that was a poor condition frame with surface rust.

Paranoia and sort of that along the frame rails exposed on to the outside seemed like they needed it after a few undersprays. We've had a salty winter so far.

Steel-it is a great product, but applying it properly to a frame without removing it from the truck seems unrealistic.

Definitely por 15 or just fluid film it. I’ve used por 15 a bunch it works great just make sure you wear gloves. First time I ever used it that stuff was stuck on my hands for weeks
