I'm well aware of that, I've seen it happen and the results, which is why im using the bed liner polyurethane coating, I've seen factory rubber coating on a BMW for instance where the rust crawls up behind it. But that probably wouldn't happen with oil coating over the top.
Haha, plus you're from GA so you're going on hearsay, I've been working under rusty NY vehicles for 20 years now

Im a huge fan of fluid film. I buy it by the gallon and use my compressor to spray underneath (car lift ftw!). The stuff coats the metal and creeps into tight places. It lasts about 6 months before you have to spray again. The problem i see with others is trying to get the top of the frame and other tight areas as well as prep required. I hit my truck every 6 months, takes 5to10minutes and im good.

I bought the undercoating kit that came with 2gallons and the gun. Black friday deal a few years back.
    Just another option for ya.

Rust Bullet and than a coat of Krown or Fluid Film works well.

But for a new frame, just spray it with Krown or Fluid Film annually and you should not have any issues.

i bought a gallon of POR15 from ebay and applied it to the bottom of the truck, its been over a year now and it hasn't shown any signs of peeling. Looks exactly like it did when i put it on. I would recommend buying the pint size because you will only use a quarter of the 1 gallon. Plus its way way cheaper.

Fluid film is what I use. The mechanic I used in PA sprays his frame with chain saw bar oil for winter and his frame has held up well.

some good suggestions on this thread,,never heard of fluid film nor corrosion free 3000 before..
what if ones truck already has an old coat of some rubberized coating under there,,you most likely cant add a solution such as fluid film or corrosion free 3000 over the top of it am i right?

I just bought my first can of fluid film to try.
I also used SEM chip guard on inboard side of rockers first, careful using this it appears to fade your paint. Then I'm going to take truck in and have it oil sprayed, there is a place called Krown near me, guess it's better known in Ontario Canada.

I think that realistically, whichever way you go, if you are in a road salted area especially, you have to realize that there is no magic bullet.

These are all 'maintenance' approaches and will need to be repeated. I do mine annually prior to the arrival of winter and more salt.

I've used POR15, Rust Bullet, Eastwood Rust Encapsulator, and KB coatings anti-rust paints. All on different toyota trucks over the years. The key is to do the prep work LIKE IT SAYS ON THE CAN. Just putting the stuff on straight from the can isn't going to last long and it's going to peel off. I actually tried the rubberized rust encapsulator on a crusty 96 tacoma I had for a while and it ALL flaked off even doing the prep work. My current truck I did the KB coatings on the outside of the frame and eastwood internal frame coating on the inside. Then when Toyota had the frame campaign checks they wound up coating it with their stuff which seems to be really rugged. And I fluid film the crap out of the underside of my truck every fall. For an 05 that's got 175k new england miles on it mine's incredibly clean underneath.

After chasing rust under my '09 Tacoma (V6 4x4 Extended cab) here in Maine (lots of salt in the winter) I have reached some conclusions.

    1. Rustoleum "rubberized" Undercoating doesn't work well. Neither does Corroseal, a product that's supposed to convert rust into a hard, paintable surface.

    2. Rustoleum Rust Converter (which looks like black spray paint) doesn't work well. All of these products come off with a wire brush the following year regardless of prep work.

    3. Fluid Film does work pretty well as long as you don't mind that the surfaces you spray it on remain greasy-feeling or tacky. This stuff is also good for electrical connectors like your trailer wiring hookup.

    4. The A-frames, etc., and the vehicle frame members near them always need attention.

    5. You have got to crawl under there with your wire brush and spray-on goo at least a few times a year, to keep after the rust. And you need to be sure to remove the spare tire and go after all the steel pieces up in there.

you can spray fluid film over the coating but not sure how effective it would be. if there are spots where they coating is coming off i can see hitting it with something else as being beneficial.

Just a review of the Krown oil undercoating I said I was going to do in November. I was really happy with the product and application done at Superior Auto Sales on Camp rd in Hamburg, NY.

The product was very thin and shiny, but it stuck well, (unlike another product I had applied to my family van). While Krown did drip, everything stayed covered.

I am very likely to have Krown done again next fall, and I would recommend it to anyone.

Just a reminder to Tacoma owners, get your frame undercoated! I have been converted to Fluid Film (Still happy with the Krown I had sprayed) and have been applying FF myself for last few years on my Tacoma. The insides of my frame channels have stayed perfect
