Is there a consensus on the best quality tonneau cover available for the 5' bed? I have been looking at the BakFlip and they seem to be the most expensive, but not sure that means they are the best.

    Appreciate any thoughts / advice.

(I did search the forum as best I could but couldn't find the answer)

Also interested in this as I'm not sure if I'll need to get a hard-top tonneau to deal with snow or if I can still swing a soft top.

Everyone will tell you something different. If you’re looking for low profile like the MX4, I love my UC ArmorFlex. Either way hit up @truckalter for the best deal

Before I bought my topper I had a Bakflip MX4. I highly recommend it. Also check out the Diamondback covers.

I can’t tell you what the best is, as everyone’s needs/tastes are different - but my experience with the bakflip MX4 has been great. It’s a low profile hard (aluminum) trifold cover. It’s not waterproof but it’s been sturdy and has kept enough of the weather out to be useful. It can hold up 400 lbs on it if it’s spread out evenly, so it’s good if you live in a snowy area. It can also be removed and put back on with ease if you need. It also came with a 10 year warranty.

Again, I don’t know if this is the best for you but so far it’s been a good purchase for me.

I ended up getting Lomax cover for my 22 TOR MT short bed. I love it so far. It is not a 100% waterproof, just a tidbit gets in around tailgate and front sides. Having a bed mat mitigates that issue. I used @truckalter for a great deal. One advantage to Lomax you don't need to drill bedliner for drainage tubes, it is light and easy to remove. I believe it will hold up to 400lbs evenly distributed https://www.agricover.com/hard-tonneau-covers/

I have the X4s and I like that I still have full usage of the bed and window with it rolling up. Super low profile too. It’s the best one fo me.

This. For the price from @truckalter you can’t really beat it.

Seems that Bakflip makes a solid product, but the Lomax is quite a bit cheaper and does the same exact thing.

You cant beat the price from @truckalter for sure. I guess the difference between Lomax and Bakflip is warranty. Lomax 3 yrs Bakflip 5, if that matters.

Have had my bakflip G2 for a year now and very satisfied. Basically the same as the MX4 but with a gloss finish and a few dollars cheaper.

I'm in the market right now as well and torn between the Bakflip and the Lomax. I had the Bakflip on my 2017 that was totaled and I loved how low profile it was, BUT I didn't like that it moves the factory rails. I want to be able to add some bed bars on there, and I know there are options but that's what has me hesitating. Also, mine leaked a lot, I live in FL which can be an issue. I was considering switching to the lomax but I just haven't made up my mind. they finally came out with a model that can flip up against the bed making the entire bed usable without having to remove the cover. Each tonneau has it's pros and cons you just have to decide which pros you want and which cons you can live with. I have basically frozen my decision because I cannot make up my damn mind.

I've seen that the MX4 is extremely well liked in this forum and in another truck forum. If you're looking for consensus that's probably about as close as you're gonna get.
I got a Peragon. It's alright. It's an awesome cover with a trick operation. However, I think they have exaggerated how easy it is to remove from the truck.

Anyone using the Extang Trifecta ALX on their Tacoma? I have an Extang on my Tundra and so far it's lasted 9 years. Not single stitch has come lose. I have a Tacoma on order and also wondered what people are using and their experiences.

I bought the LoMax hard trifold from @GotExhaust in August 2020. So far been very happy with it. It has held up to snow. It’s easy enough to remove on your own if you need the full bed. I did have to add a little bit more foam weather stripping between the bed and the side rails to make it more water tight. Overall it was a good deal for a hard cover.
It was under $700 back then. Can’t speak for the current pricing with inflation. I think it’s the lomax or the backflip mx4 which is more expensive. Everyone seems to like both of those.

Appreciate all the responses! This is super helpful info... I realize these things are subjective but you can see a clear pattern emerging in the responses so I am going to look at the Lomax and decide between that and the BakFlip.
