Sadly theft is getting rampant near my home.
    Truck is an automatic.
Would the best deterrent be a kill switch with a tracker?
    Any recommendations?
    Thanks!

rzrtracker.com has GPS trackers designed for the "Buy Here, Pay Here" car dealers. They include a mechanism to not allow the starter to engage (It's a relay you can wire to whatever you want) Also has internal battery that lasts a day or so.

I have a couple of these devices. I get immediate texts when I leave the area I set.
$125 device, Service is $25 for a whole year.

No 1st gens have smart/chip keys. Some have the RS3200/3000 "keyless" system that can be upgraded to free to the security system. Both of these offer the immobilizer.

@donut - do you have the factory keyless or alarm? That is about as far as you can go without bolting it down in the driveway so someone doesn't drag it away to steal.

My brother in law has a Ravelco in his TRX. According to their website, nobody has been able to steal a vehicle with the device installed.

I use a TrackMate gps tracker with option of remote fuel pump shut off. If my truck is stolen I can report to Police dept, track it's location and shut fuel pump off when police are following it.

It also came in handy when wife and I got into an argument on vacation. She said she leaving me there and heading home.
Waited until she was in a parking spot at convient store and shut pump off:rofl:Didnt take long before she calmed down and called for help. :D

No matter what you do or installed, if they want it, they'll get it. Majority of these "steering wheel/brake lock or hidden kill switch" are just that, a deterrent. A joyrider will take the easiest vehicle they can get their hands on.

If you have stupid money invested into your vehicle, a professional car theft isn't worry too much. They'll flatbed that vehicle down the road, unplug the battery, and take it to their chopshop. Unless your GPS tracker have a backup battery that will last 12 hours, you wouldn't know it's missing until it's too late.

It's the EFI fuse, and I would strongly discourage folks from doing so. Installing a concealed kill switch for the fuel pump is a much better solution. Pulling the EFI fuse will reset the ECU every time, causing the monitors to be constantly incomplete, and result in shitty gas mileage.

There are many threads and many different ways to go about the switch, but it will always come down to how much of a pain in the ass do you want to make things for yourself. You are going to be the one who has to flip a switch or pass a magnate over a hidden reed switch, etc.. every time you want to start your truck. A thief is only going to figure it out once.
