    Hey guys,

The winter roads just owned my stock 04 TRD's suspension and I put a used stock suspension on today to get me by for now. I've lived here for a long time but I've never seen the roads get this bad it's been unreal. Usually the roads are great all year round but this year has been very warm and wet.

Anyway, what would you guys recommend for a suspension setup to take a bit of abuse? I try to drive carefully but I just can't stand to crawl. I don't hit a cringeworthy bump very often. It's a very level road but it's just completely full of potholes and washboard.

Any help would be much appreciated! I'm definitely not scared to spend >$1000 for a good setup that will last.

    Thanks!

I access a similar road and I've come down to the decision of an OME lift kit with nitro charger shocks and dakar leafs. Developed in Australia for the bumpy outback but is a great all around set up it seems. Around that price online. Waiting for my funds to pull the trigger. That's my .02

    no it doesn't.

Id get some Fox or King extended travel Coil OVers with resi's on them with new UCAs from Camburg. Then take off your sway bar. Front will ride like butter.

For the rear id go for some fox shocks as well or kings. Get some new leaf packs. Dakars or Wheelers 5 packs with wheelers AAL would be nice.

Not going to be cheap however..

These guys will spend all your money faster than you can. For what you describe, OME is perfect, and disconnecting the swaybar (only with stronger aftermarkt coils) will really help soak up the bumps. Ther's a forestry road up near Donner Summit that sounds very much like what you descrieb, and the OME cruises over it, and makes it downright fun.

what are you talking about.. we've already charged it to his card :typing:

but honestly, what Blackdawg and scocar both said would work. it all honestly boils down to what you want to spend.

Also maybe investing in some OBA or a co2 system so you could air down a bit on the dirt roads, that would help a lot.

You could save some money on the rear leafs and do the spring refurbishing mod.

Here's a link to the thread, all the info is in there.
    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/suspension/194386-tacoma-spring-refurbishing.html

There are a bunch of guys running them with good results out West mobbin dez or w/e west coast nonsense they call it:boink:

This would allow you to spend more money on UCA's, coilovers & rear shocks. It sounds like it would be more beneficial to you to spend more on good shocks with proven damping/ rebound than expensive ass rear lift leafs.

    Just my .02...

Actually, Jordan, a little more info about your roads and conditions might help.

What kind of mileage are you talking about, and on what surfaces? Obviously the washboard is dirt/gravel, but do you also have paved roads with bad potholes, etc.? And what distances are we talking about? And do you ever drive significant distances at freeway speeds on good, smooth roads, and is this your daily driver/only vehicle, and do you frequently carry heavy loads in the bed, or nothing at all?

Monte brought up onboard air. That seems potentially a little elaborate in a commuting situation (if that is your situation), but it made me think that a different tire/wheel setup could also help you soak up potholes, like 15 inch wheels with 33s, and lower air pressure.

And Sloths' point is valid, too. Good shocks can make a big difference in this situation. What do you have now, and how many miles are on them?

I know a few guys in heavily snowed areas that run 20psi till it warms up again..but they have snow almost all winter. I know that wouldn't work where i live.

I agree though, more info on the roads and your driving situation.

Im still thinking a nice coilover and nice rear shocks though for the smoothest ride if thats what you want.

Yeah, the rear is going do dance and buck all over the goddman place with worn out or weak shocks and no load in the bed in these conditions. Hell, it will do that on interstate in bad repair.
