Best sound deadening material for the cost?

I have seen the Noico red and the Dynamat materials for sale but they are expensive! Approximately $50-$60 for only 30 to 40 square feet. I have used the foam backed foil type insulation you buy at HD or Lowe’s before like use on HVAC. Is the other stuff mentioned that much better. Looks like the same concept to me?

 

noico is best for the money, in my opinion

 

from 2017, my RAAMmat order for double cab..... the RAAMmat BXT was approx .100" thick with super tacky adhesive... I was happy with the quality, but no matter what you use it will all be expensive....but worth it as it doesn't feel like I am driving in a tin can.....

 

Well......they are not the same product.

The stuff from HD/Lowes is meant to keep the heat/cold inside the HVAC duct work. It isn't made for sound absorption.

Sound absorption is a more stringent/difficult problem. The CLD material will suppress panel vibrations. The MLV material will absorb sound waves. The low frequency sounds have a longer wavelength than high frequency. The lower the frequency the thicker the material needs to be to absorb the sound.

Suggest for you to do more research and learning regarding sound absorption and "sound deadening". Be aware. Using too much material will increase cost with diminishing sound absorption.

 

Whatever you can get on sale if your staying on a budget. I bought some Killmat on Amazon because it was on sale. It does a decent job. The last car i was serious about I went with Raammat...and that is some really super stuff. But it isn't cheap.

But...please stay away from the Home Depot peel n stick. It never really stops smelling like asphalt and will lose its adhesion over time.

 

I found everything I looked at that was quality was expensive. I went with the Noico. It makes a big difference.

Used it under the shifter assembly area.


Also started on the back wall. I have found this product to have no smell at all, but you better want it on there forever. It aint coming off.

 

Just used Noico to deaden the rear and all doors. Could not be happier with the
results! Hell of a good product!
And if you’re partial it comes in black too.

When i did my doors i actually put them inside the door in strips instead of under neath the door card . Made a big difference in quitting down my tire noise. And when when you close the doors it doesn’t have that hollow tinny sound

 

How much did you go with for the DCSB? Did you do floor, roof, back, doors?

 

I did went through all this on my 1st gen. Wrote it all up in a 2-part post. I list several options at various price points, and cover how much you'll need. I assume it'd be similar amounts for second gen.

the question you should be asking is how to clean the door internals
By this time, the inside metal is completely covered in dirt/dust/sand.
Which will prevent adhesion of sound deadening material

It takes way too long trying to wipe that clean with Tub O Towels

 

I just did Amazon brand mat in all 4 doors. I put 2 sheets in the door and two behind the door panels. It made a huge difference. Not pro quality, but for the money I'd do it again. Next up I'm doing the headliner. At 34 sheets for 55 bucks it's hard to beat.

 

Careful, the cheap stuff tends to not do well in heat. Last thing you want is that stuff coming unglued and melting down from the headliner.

 

I did all of the back wall.rear doors and front doors in strips . When you do yours and you have the doors apart you’ll see that theres like three flat sections obout 8” wide and almost the length of door. Rear floor and storage area was almost full coverage. I did from driver and passenger floor matt area up to firewall . I didn’t do under the seats and didn’t do headliner

 

@TACOMA2NDGEN did you finish rolling the diamond embossing smooth? Looks like Noico puts that on there to assist with install and making sure everything is adhered properly.

Yep it says to do that exact thing in the instructions. Roll until all embossing is gone.

Its a pretty important step to installing it. As there are only 2 steps

 

As much of a pain as the job is, I would splurge for the best deadener you can afford and do it once and be happy.

 

I basically just used my palm and fingers to smooth it out

 

Get out your exacto knife and work into those voids more. The bubble gaps you see are void with air gap that will expand in the heat.
