Hey, first post to forum, but have been lurking for a while. I've read many of the other threads on shocks but there doesn't seem to be any answers as to best shocks replacements for a 1995.5 taco with stock suspension. (2.7L 4X4 reg cab).

Price isn't crucial. Best bang for buck is ideal.

Bilstein HD's or 5100's are the common ones being thrown around but I think they they can be only put on trucks with TRD packages??

I'm open to all suggestions or opinions, even coil springs replacement as well (truck has 75 000 miles). Bottom line, shocks are old and they no longer dampen oscillation like they should.

I do a couple 4X4 roads a year when going to fishing spots.

    Thanks!!!!

If you do bilstein 5100's with your stock springs, you can set the bisltein's at 0" and retain your factory height. If you do bilstein 5100's and replace your coils as well, you're looking into height difference. Eibach springs with Bilstein's set at 0" will give you close to 3" of lift, which you could easily balance out with an AAL in the rear.

Also, you can use Bilstein's with a non-TRD truck.

    Thanks for the reply.

I'd like to keep it at stock height.

I hear the 5100's are better than the HD's?

And I'm wanting to replace the rear ones as well. so 5100's on the back is ok?

Eh, see my Build Thread sig link. Too many mods to list.
From my understanding, Bilstein HD's will give you a way stiff ride...so unless you have a bigger bumper and winch (or plan to), that wouldn't be a good option.

I went with 5100's all around and Eibachs and love the lift - looks and ride.

Yes, if you do 5100's in the front set at 0", you'll keep stock height. 5100's in the rear are okay, too.

Your current stock height is probably lower than original. Unless you have changed your leaf springs out.

I swapped rear leafs and front coils with ome 811's it sits nice and level now and rides like a new truck. i went with bilstein hds in the rear and 5100's set to 0 in front, but it was pricey replacing all that stuff.

You cannot put 5100s on the rear with stock leafs

How come? And why hasn't anyone else said this lol.

What do u recommend then for the back, that would compliment 5100's in the front.

The 5100's are longer than the stock rear shocks. I have an AAL, so I could fit them. Without an AAL, blocks, etc, the 5100 would be too big

I put 880 ome coils on front not 881 my bad. And new 3+1 daystar (stock) springs on rear. 5100 struts in front and bilstein HD's in rear. I didn't want to alter the drivetrain geometry. My truck gained 2 inches of height front and rear just because the factory springs sag after years of use it looks like a 4wd truck again and rides better than I expected. If you are interested in doing the same setup I can send u before and after pics also wheelers sells all of the parts you will need. Good luck

That sounds great, I'd love the before and after pics. What you described is about bang on what I want to do, stock geometry= less problems and adequate for my truck uses.

I'm interested too hahaha. I am looking to replace shocks at stock height, and wouldn't mine gaining an inch or so. If I got 5100's in the front, could I get 4600 in the rear?
