I'm in the market for a roof storage system too for my 2017. Any knocks against or advice for the factory rails and a clamp-on basket?

I went back and forth between prinsu and warrior. I ended up going with the warrior. It comes black powder coated, has the optional air dam, and I liked the idea of inch square bars for mounting. Look around the web for the warrior products 4860 platform rack and you can find some good deals. I can add some pictures when I get home if anyone wants to see it.

What are you needing it for? I just bought the OEM because I really only needed it for my 12ft solo canoe. Stupid easy install and got it for $276.

Do you want it over your cab? Or camper shell? I installed a vantech J1000 that's a "low profile" 72 inch crossbar on my shell and love it.

Form follows function, right? I REALLY like being able to lock the tonneau & tailgate when we're in urban environments. However, a couple of times a year we are going to take road trips (5k miles +) where we need to haul more gear than will fit under the tonneau cover. So I'm thinking the factory rack and maybe a basket for our road trips.

I've also seen some slick, low-profile, locking containers for rooftop baskets. Anyone got an opinion/source on those? I really appreciate the info and feedback. Thanks ya'll.

When I finally go into full "bug out mode" I think I'll go that route too. But for now I like the idea of the locking tonneau cover + over the cab storage.

They bought out/acquired M-Racks who used to sell their racks for ~$799, and now KC retails these racks for 1200. Either they made them better quality and now cost more to make, or they jacked up the price to squeeze more money.

The M-Racks also did not use factory bolt points and required holes put in the roof. But maybe KC changed that to be more vehicle specific. Idk.

Edit: after looking over the install directions, yeah you have to drill holes in your roof.

I went that route because I haul two kayaks and use saddles so I needed the crossbar to be reeaaal wide. Considering one kayak is 34 inches wide and the other is 30, I also have a DIY rod pod that I put in the middle.

Drill 6 holes? It uses the stock roof rack hole locations just like the OEM rack. Only access cabs require drilling but that goes for all access cab racks.

No drilling required for double cab. Have had mine for two years. No problem hauling kayaks, lumber and tent.
