Best Roadside Assistance Company

Shopping around for a good roadside assistance company, like AAA etc after finding out my auto insurance provider only covers tows up to 15 miles. I live in a rural area and nearest decent mechanic is next town over which is 35 miles

 

AAA Plus is good for 100 miles of towing, last time I was aware. Roughly $120/yr. But depends on how many contractors they have in your "rural" area ... no offense, but you do not mention how sparse the "services" are where you live.

 

I use AAA because it makes my wife feel good.

Used twice in the last 20 years. Once to tow a vehicle with a blown head gasket, once to get pulled out of a yard (!) that turned to red clay snot after a long rain.

They have distance limitations too, based on which plan you chose

 

You can also use you AAA to help others for tow, jumping, locksmith. I used my AAA for a kids mom who locked herself out at soccer practice

I think most insurance policy road service states the closest place .Does not Matter how bad they might be.

 

Well we have one streetlight in town if that helps

So get AAA Plus for $120/year, assuming AAA accounted for differences in locality to meet their promised service levels.

 

Avoid anyone who uses Agero as their roadside assistance or towing company.

 

I waited 5 hours for a tow that never came. My insurance company arranged for that till after I was in a minor accident but the rear end was making a funny sound. I was going to use my AAA account but the nice young lady at the insurance company said that they would send a tow. Never arrived never got any updates there is no way to contact agero directly because they only service their clients not their clients customers. I finally ended up driving home at about 30 mph so that nothing bad would happen.

 

Those ass hats would call the place I use to work at non stop. Apparently they don't have a no call list.

 

All they do is call places close to where the call is located. I don't believe they ever pay the people who might go out and handle a request for them. It's a joke.

 

Yes, I just spoke with a towing service owner and he said avoid Agero, he said all roadside assistance companies were pretty bad but he is using AAA and they are not partnered with Agero

 

AAA has it's own issues, but at least members can call and complain. They are also, from what I've seen, upfront about delays. During COVID they were quoting 2-3 days for breakdowns.

 

Word of caution when it comes to using your auto insurance to tow you out of a jamb...most carriers will treat your tow as a mark on your record. It's just as significant as having an accident on your record. Makes no sense but they make the rules, we just have to figure out how to play by the rules.

 

Also, another thought. There are some credit cards that offer that free( I believe) or at a reduced rate. Might take a look at what your credit card perks are.

My Dear Mom is a huge fan of AAA, but she’s where there is good cell coverage. About 80% of the places I drive “there be dragons”. Fortunately the locals will pick you up and take you where you need to go, probably offer you a beer too.
