Best rim/tire setup for a 2007 tacoma with a 3inch lift?

greetings my fellow yota enthusiasts,

new here and have owned a partially stock 2007 tacoma access cab for a while now. Ive put a 3inch Bilstien 5100 lift in and now its time for a rim and tire upgrade from the stock 16's.

I would love to hear every ones ideas/thoughts on sizes that wont cause me too much grief in the trimming department.

Best place imo ever to get Tim and tire combos. This is where I bought my rim and tire combo. Comes shipped, mounted and balanced. I got 275/70/17 BFG A/T KO2s on Desert Rattler Tracker II Black all four for 999$ out the door. I don’t use the center caps but you could and put a nice toyota or trd decal on top and with the carbon fiber accent, would look good. I’ll add a pic on the truck for eye candy later

 

Here are the rims on my truck with the tire combo. Im not at 3 inches, I like it a bit lower on my Icons, but it will give you a good idea.

 

The most popular sizes for a 3" lift are

265/75/16

265/70/17

Those are about the same height, just under 32" tall

 

265/75/16

 

If you go with these sizes you **should not** have too many rubbing issues, especially on 3 inches of lift.

If you do, here are things to consider. If you run front mud flaps, it may rub on these, and you might have to take them off (the stock mud flaps have a weird hump on them that sticks out, thanks toyota..). Also, if you still have rubbing you could try a spacer (like a Spidertrax 1.5 wheel spacer) that would offset a bit more and may clear up rubbing issues. Worst case, you may have to trim the front or rear internal plastic a bit...worse case, do the Cab Body Mount Chop mod...but with 32s, you should be ok.

 

Correction 1.25 wheel spacer. Also, mine are bigger at 275/70/17 so I had some rub...if you go with a size that @Dimestore55 mentioned, should be ok.

255/85r16 Cooper ST-MAXX, 16x8" Pro Comp 31 Series rims. 3" OME lift when I have the right alignment specs there's no rubbing.

 

Well you sure arent rubbing on a stock front bumper thats for certain..AMIRITE! Really tho, no rub on the cab mounts at all?

 

No rub on the cab mount unless I'm wheeling with caster set below 2°. Killed a mud flap though lol. That was with the stock bumper. I just got the ARB two weeks ago.

 

OP asked about wheel setup as well, which im trying to figure out to. With a three inch lift what offsets could he run without any cutting or banging? Does a -12mm offset require any trimming or could an 18mm offset be ok as well?

 

First gen rims with some paint and 265's. First gen rims have slightly less backspacing so they stick out more, which is what I wanted. Cheap and aluminum, and looks good IMHO.

 

The more - negative offset you have the further IN the rim is where the mounting surface is located that contacts the hub, and inevitably less actual rim metal is under the well 9IE the rim protrudes MORE) . The more + positive offset means the mounting surfarce is closer to the rims outside edge, meaning more metal under the well, and less outward rim protrusion. YOu have to look at your set up, find out what your current offset is (on stock rims I am assuming), and determine if moving offset ( -/+ )ie (rim out/or rim in) you want/need or can afford due to how much space you have currently.

 

He is right, but to clarify, when he says "less backspacing" he means going towards center or into negative, which means more sticking out.

EX: +30 offset and going to +20 offset is "less backspacing", but its still positive of the centerline where rim backspacing measuring starts, but the 20 will protrude more than the 30, but not more than a 0 or negative offset wheel which will protrude a LOT more.
