Before replacing it is always good to check your battery. One of these simple testers can tell you if the battery has enough CCA for starting. I test our batteries every few months once they are about 2 years old, and replace when the tester indicates a problem. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tVHlG9qgr8k

When it comes to replacing, I find the quality and price of Interstate batteries at Costco to be the ideal for my needs, but have had fine results with all mid range batteries in the recommended size/group from Autozone or other parts stores.

I've had good luck with my Duralast 24F AGM. I looked at Odyssey and Northstar, no way would I pay their prices. The 24F has been plenty to run my winch, fridge and WeBoost, but the AGM 24F has greater capacities across the board then the lead-acid 24F.

I had a bad one after bad one. They would fail just short of 1 year, and they'd give another for the remainder of the warranty period. When the last one failed, I said screw it, and bought a deka for more money. Issue is solved. It's strange, I've had their everstarts going way back and they were good.

I saw AGM listed a time or two. Remember, if you swap to AGM your stock voltage output isn't the required voltage for continuous charge for AGM.
If your in a 3rd gen, you'll need to flash the ECU to bring the charge up to the correct range.

unless you have auxiliary lights, winch, or something else that is an additional electrical load, you are over-thinking this.

i purchase auto and atv batteries from napa or my local tire shop simply because they are close by and if i ever have an issue (and i haven't, yet), i can stop in and get it taken care of. my batteries have always lasted at least 5 years, and i usually replace them around then. i don't wait until they die. when 5 years is up, i wait until there is a sale and buy one.

Breaking News: Expensive designer Batteries dont last any longer than regular Batteries. Get the one with the bets price and warranty, which is most likely Costco or Walmart

My '17 Taco is still running it's original Battery through these cold as fuck winters, and hotter than fuck summers, but I am carrying around a 1500a battery booster pack, for the inevitable....

My Tundra battery lasted nearly 8 years and I replaced it only because I didn't want to take a chance on it leaving me stranded somewhere with nothing but the sounds of distant banjos. Checking around they were all way higher than the original, so I went with OEM again and even though I had the truck for only 3 more years, it was showing no signs of trouble. I have to imagine the Tacoma OEM battery is similar.

Nearly all the 12-volt car batteries built and sold in the US come from either Johnson Controls (over half the market share) East Penn, or Stryten.

"Cheap" Everstart batteries from Walmart are made by Johnson Controls.

I have used Everstart batteries in my vehicles for the past 10 years and all of them have lasted about ~5-7 years in Georgia's climate.

I was shopping batteries a few years ago. Went to guy that only sells batteries, mostly for golf cars and boats. He said that nearly all batteries in the USA are made by two companies, Deka in the East and Johnson Controls in the West. He said pick one made by either. The heaviest battery in its size class will be the best, as it contains more lead.

I had great service from the Toyota battery in my 08 Tundra, it lasted 5 years..which is great in the Upper Sonoran Desert, so I replaced it with another, got great service again. The Toyota battery in my 18 Tacoma died in a year, the warranty replacement is still going strong. When it dies I will get an Interstate. it was just "the luck of the draw" to have a poor battery in the Tacoma..

Deka is made by East Penn who has also produced Everstart batteries for Walmart. Climate will impact your battery life more than anything else. Don't be an ignorant sucker and pay double the price for something that is made in the same factory and contains ~10% more lead.

Deka is just a brand under East Penn Manufacturing, but yeah this is pretty much 100% correct. Johnson Controls, Stryten, and East Penn make all the 12v car batteries in the USA. Any brand you see in the store is owned by one of these three conglomerates and marketed in a way to upcharge the ignorant consumer a ridiculous amount for slightly more lead.

You can pay ~$60 for a battery that lasts ~5 years, or you can pay ~$240 for a battery that lasts ~6-7. Really a no brainer.

Like many are saying most batteries are made by a handful of companies. Fancy colored cases, labels and advertising are just an attempt to make you spend more money. A basic battery from any source including big box stores like Costco are ok. Group code 24f battery. Most will last 4-6 years. Getting a new one every 4-6 years is better than messing around trying to revive a bad one is worth it to me.

battery life is also degraded by heat and under charging. If you live in a hot environment and have a very short commute expect fewer years of service from your battery.
