The BEST one doesn't exist(stays running after you open the door)
The add-on remote starts using your OEM keyfob will all(to you) be the same.
The limitation will be the range of the factory fob.(unless you go GPS with app control)
If you go aftermarket with a secondary fob, there are more benefits(range, truck info, etc) but you will have 2 remotes hanging on your key ring.

12voltsolutions plug and play remote start installed today in 30 minutes start to finish. Works great.

I just saw the install video below for the one offered by 12Volt.Solutions and it can't be any simpler. I can splice cables but I will pay the extra money for the convenience of plug-n-play. I will probably get it in the near future. I wonder why some of the other vendors aren't doing the same thing. There doesn't seem to be anything proprietary it's just pre-wired connectors into which you plug in your OEM connectors.

Just installed a kb voodoo remote start yesterday and would recommend it. 12 v solutions also has good reviews.

I used the 12volt solutions. Little more expensive but I liked that it was plug and play. If you have had your dash apart before the install takes 15 minutes. If it’s your first time maybe 30.

My dealership installs remote start on the original key fob. Do you know if those stay on after opening the door?

So with my wifes 4runner the dealer installed a 3rd party starter. This obviously requires another key fob, but, it runs when the doors are open and has no time limit for automatic shut off and also has like a mile range or something ridiculous. You guys are saying the door open forces the car off on all of them, but is that just with push start vehicles?
This smart solution one is $100 dollars less than dealer installed version, and I could do it easily and won't need an extra fob. My question though is, does this door open thing change in the push button start vehicles? My wife has 2016 4runner, keyed start.

Have you tried to drive off without putting key in?

You deffenitly need the key to let it run. Doing a little more research on the listed threads seems to have answered my question. On the push starts the door opening shuts it all down, on the keyed start you can open the doors, but still need the key in it.

This Honda CR-V EX I test drove last week has the push button start....you can start it with the remote and open the door and it will keep running. Once you sit down in the seat you put your foot on the brake and push the engine start button. Wonder why Toyota engineers cannot design such a thing??? You can even leave the 2nd fob in the SUV and leave the engine running then with the other fob lock the doors. Is Toyota that far behind Honda?

:goingcrazy: No idea. But then again i have no clue why it bothers so many people? All you do is put foot on brake and press button to restart car. Is it that much of a deal braker u still have a warm toasty car. But people are up in arms over it haha :gossip:

Yeah it would not bother me either but they don't make the remote start for the H-key trucks.

Well you see... I open my door, throw in my water/phone whatever and then I throw a few things in the bed. With a tonneau cover that means I have to open the tailgate, get my stuff sorted so it doesn't fly around and then close it back up. Takes MAYBE 30seconds to a minute. That is a whole MINUTE that my car isn't being warmed up, unless I change my whole routine and hop in the car to start it before putting everything else in the bed--a lot of times that isn't even possible though, as the things are big and the ground is snow or mud.

I'm being silly, but when it's -30, an extra minute isn't really something to joke about.
