I have an ILX-F309 that I like quite a bit, but I will be replacing it in a few months with a Pioneer unit that seems a bit more polished.

The Pioneer at least has wireless AA/CP.

Still miffed it's 2021 and stereo companies are using display tech from the iPhone 3G era. Can SOMEBODY just nut up and produce an OLED headunit already???? :spending:

Yes sir! Used Rockford Fosgate Prime R1T-S tweeters with ********* adapters. Cut the factory plug off old tweeter and soldered/heat shrink to new tweeter.

Would it be possible to get a couple of side shots on how this looks mounted? I am looking at a F309 but was curious does it look like a bolted on component or not. THANK YOU

    It's a 3rd gen, but...

It sticks out about 2" but can move in/out a bit and rotate to lean back/forward a bit as well as change bias toward passenger/driver. The unit also slides/up/down vertically a bit, but none of these adjustments are very dramatic.

I had it in my taco and really liked it. The stock shots below show it extended as far out of the dash as possible.

I went with a Kenwood Dnx996xr with wireless CarPlay. It was a bitch to fit in there (Crutchfield is sending some 90° RCA adapters so I can move it back another 1/4"). The fit would be fine on their non-DVD decks.

The Kenwood dash cam plugs into it and can display on the head unit and it sounds much better. I added the small Kenwood "sub" under the driver's seat that is running off the sub output on the HU and the factory speakers are all running off the factory JBL amp.

I have the maestro installed as well to retain steering wheel controls and display vehicle information.

If you're looking at that JVC you might like the radio I recently upgraded to. It's got a 1 inch smaller screen but fits like factory and is a lot cheaper.
So far it's been working really well. Also includes all the wiring.

Ive been watching that thread for sometime but haven’t had time to digest the entire thing.

The joying unit has wireless apple car play?
Can/does the unit have the ability to mirror your phone?

It does have wireless Apple CarPlay. I haven’t seen a way to directly mirror your phone screen like an AirPlay device. There might be an app available from the google play store. But so far Apple CarPlay has been enough in-car apps for me.

I bought the radio because of that thread and after a few months it’s still working well. Also sounds better than my last alpine unit.

For anyone considering pioneer. In the mid 90s, my go to installer switched from primarily alpine to pioneer mostly due to the cost difference, being able to get customers more bang for their buck. Then recently he switched back due to having problems with the pioneer units and being unable to get customers anything warranty. Just something to consider when choosing a brand.
