Where is a good place to get a safety check on this island, preferably Honolulu area? I need to rip my tint off (5% all around), YES i know that. I have HID's but I have a 3rd gen so they are in projectors. All my bulbs were changed out to LED's but no ridiculous color (blue, purple, red, etc.) but they do blink fast since i didn't install the resistors. I would like to avoid Lex Brodies, Midas, or any other big named companies because I would think they might make a big fuss about my lighting. Anyone have any suggestions?

When i lived in town, i used to go to the service stations up in Kaimuki. There were alot and they were pretty quick. This was before they had the ipad and took pictures of you car though. No matter where you go, it will all depend on the inspector you get when you go in. You can go to the same place and get different results. Some will be nitpicky, some will let it slide. Only way you can for sure pass without question is you have to personally know the person doing the inspection. Even referrals may not work. I have LED lights in my truck and havent had any issues for the past 2 years for my headlights. As long as its not blueish, purple or any off color, you should be fine. The area you may fail is the HID’s. I read in another thread that HID are prohibited unless came from the factory that way, but LED’s are not mentioned. I dont know how they can tell, but when i did mine, i just said i had LED headlights if they asked. They are 6000k color temp. Having projectors in our 3rd gens does help. I used to get dinged all the time with my frontier that had reflectors.

This was posted in another thread and has alot of useful info.

My LED’s has a small box on the harness, but i could easily just unscrew it and pull it out for them to look at it.

Thanks && yes I been getting some messages on where to go. If your talking about that Kaimuki Auto Repair shop by 8th ave, I heard that place got REALLY strict now. & i used to have a frontier too lol until it caught on fire on the side of the freeway.

My ballasts are zip tied and hidden under the top of the frame by the headlights, so maybe they wont notice it. There isn't no extra wiring that's going to the battery so i guess it's not too noticeable.

hmmmm yeah if i wanted to go through the trouble of changing all my bulbs i wouldn't have come to yall for help LOL. thanks for the input tho.

Aloha for all the help everyone . I honestly wouldn't mind if the safety inspection station told me "your headlights will fail you, but for X amount of dollars, we can change out the bulb & pass you." I knew what i was getting myself into when doing these mods, I went through my fair share of building JDM cars when I was younger and learned you gotta PAY to PLAY lol.

SUCCESS! LOL finally got my safety! thanks everyone for the help. I ended up taking my tint off but they didn't give 2 shits about my hid's or my led turn signals.
