What say you AZTW ? What's the best tire for getting around off road in our beautiful diverse state.
AT MT or is there a best mix of both?
Size isn't as much of a concern.
But for the sake of conversation the plan is to go with a 285 70 17.
Currently running a 265 75 16 bfg at. Which have been great so far. But I'd love to hear your experiences.

Over the last 13 years I’ve run 285, 255, and now 235/85/16 in both BFG MT & AT. My opinion is that unless you’re “rock crawling”, AT is sufficient and superior in terms of ride quality and wear. ATs will chunk out easier on large rocks, but for everything else are more than capable. I was very disappointed in how fast the MTs wore and how terribly loud they were in comparison.

Consider your gearing and RPMS when you go larger. I went from 265 to 285 and re-geared to 4.88s, then gradually over the years realized that a little smaller, narrower, lighter (and cheaper!) tire covered all the bases for me and made more sense. So I’m now happiest I’ve been with the 235s. Enough that I’d like to put them on my other two 4x4s as well.

Really like my Toyo Open Country AT2's If/when I go lift to run 285's I will probably run The Open Country RT's a good combo of beefed up AT with a little better mud performance without the noise of a MT

EDIT The AT2's have 3 different versions. Mildly aggressive P rated more aggressive sidewall LT rated and in bigger sizes like 285 Extreme version. I have the LT's

I went with the Nitto Ridge Grappler, its a hybrid. Gets me everywhere I've needed to go.

I’ve gotten by with 30” BFs AT tires on 15” rims. I’m not rock crawling but have been on some pretty ruff roads. Worst road I’ve been on was the back road going to Verde Hot Springs.

As @OnePuttBlunder mentioned the Toyo AT2 comes in an Extreme version. I ran those on my Tacoma and was really happy with them. If you have a 16" wheel the Extreme is 295/75r16. Also ran very quite on the road and was well balanced.

I have run the Toyo AT2 in a 285/75/R18 and I liked them alot. Very quiet and smooth riding on the road. However I think you really need some Ridge Grapplers for your new SCS wheels.... maybe in a 285/75R17 with low miles on them. J/K
