Hey guys. Not a taco owner (yet) but trying to do as much research as possible before I pull the trigger on a new ORDC. My question is, what tires are you guys running in snow country? Not looking for a “snow” tire but something I can run all year long that does very well in the snow. From what I’ve heard the stock off road tires aren’t the best in snow? I don’t plan on doing any crawling or serious off roading. Maybe the occasional trail but nothing to crazy. Plan on keeping the stock OR suspension/lift and the stock OR wheels. Mostly drive on a mix of city/highway. But we get a ton of snow where I live. I’d like to have largest possible tire without any rubbing. Please include tire size and type. Right now I’m thinking a narrower tire may work best? Say a 255/85/16? Thanks!

Take your stock truck out first. Then decide whether you need better or bigger tires or not.

Good advice... The stock wranglers are pretty good in the snow when they are new..

You're not going to get a tire that's amazing in snow but can be used all year round. There are some all terrains /all seasons that are adequate in snow (stock OR tires included), but they wont be as dependable as a dedicated snow/winter tire.

I’ve had good luck with Cooper ST Maxx tires. Not as good as a dedicated snow/studded tire but good enough if you don’t try to drive like a jackass.

Duratracs! I’ve ran them on multiple trucks and they are great in snow and ice

SAdly you will get a variety. Of opinions on this and it seems to be region specific. What I typically do is go to the parking lot and see what everyone else is running for winter tyres in the area. The I go fro there. For me ko2’s amd duratracs seem to be the top tyres.

A buddy of mine who lives in Montana says most guys up there run DuraTracs in the winter.

I loved my Defender LTX M/S tires on my last truck. Good all-season tire for snow but also low sound and good tread life.
I currently have Kumho Crugen HT51 on my wife's SUV and they're very similar to the defender tire, but rated even better in snow.
They're an all-season that has the "triple mountain snowflake" rating like a real snow tire.

I wouldn't buy Defender's with the intentions of specific snow use..

I was going to run mine this winter but I was a little let down... I got Blizzaks

Thanks! Guess I should have been more clear in my original post. I know I won’t get the same performance from a year round tire as I will from a dedicated snow tire in the winter. Just looking for something above average I guess?

I've run these General AT2's on two different trucks. No complaints.

Look for an all-season tire that has the triple mountain snowflake symbol. (Like the Kumho Crugen HT51 I mentioned above).
This symbol designates that the tire is rated for severe snow service. Quite a few all-season tires have this rating.

A three-peak mountain snowflake (3PMSF) symbol branded on a tire's sidewall indicates the tire meets required performance criteria in snow testing to be considered severe snow service-rated. Originally used as a designation for winter tires, the 3PMSF symbol is now featured on some all-season and all-terrain tires with snow performance that meets the testing criteria.

I'm sort of surprised it took this long for the AT3W to get mentioned. I don't have experience with them myself, but was looking for the exact type of tire that the OP is asking for, and my search including lots of reviews led me to the AT3W. Getting them installed on Friday.

You'll get a lot of answers. I've been happy with Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo and Firestone Destination A/T on my T100. That was daily driving, highway driving, some off-road, and snow up to 8" here in Kansas. Not enough snow experience yet with the Goodyear Wranglers that came on the new Tacoma to really judge.
