All that for XYZinch of ground clearance for the fronts?

Nope. I would spend that money elsewhere.

Random stuff. Oh! and converted to non ADD 4x4.
Portals are awesome. I rather invest those 20k on a canam RC or an old yota/Jeep with 1 tons n’ 40”s.

I mean it did otherwise look kind of stock. Upgraded UCA’s are common; idk why it has to be THEIR aluminum ones vs anyone else’s steel for half the price

or why the LCA has to be theirs and not another
If it claims to be stock geometry
Aka what I would assume is same mounting method that could interchange other parts

It does look somewhat stock regarding travel and rear leafpack

I wonder what it’d be like paired with the common upgrades some have already done:
    -leafpack
    -archive hangers
    -longer shocks
    -JD Fab LCA pivots
If the only difference would be taller height and more articulation
Which he already has height on those 37’s

idk how much wheeling those stock diffs can handle with 37’s

if there’s a little bit of trimming involved that’s still impressive
There’s always JD Fab inner tenders, CMC/relocate, etc

I know I can’t rationalize such a $20k purchase into a truck like this now. I wonder at what point it does become rational.
    $200k/yr+ job? Lottery?

i think other portal kits commonly used on rigs abroad go down to like $10-15k
Humvees have them stock but their stock motors suck and who knows what else is involved in buying an old surplus one (probably no A/C, possibly needs restoration, 4mpg city stock, etc)

If wheeled, factory cvs will still break. for the price not worth it.

it does say retains stock front axles so if those are too weak I guess an extra upgrade to 934/RCV and all that or whatever it’s called would still be needed (more thousands likely)

Don’t forget anything related to steering.
Huge wear and tear on the steering components.

    and the fuel economy.

and the really high centre of gravity

and the aerodynamic drag from…well everything.

Doing this mod requires a lot more changes than what they lead on.

Yes, RCV axles but an axle is easier to swap out. RCVs do break despite what some think. Then the weak point is the diff. If that blows your out 4x4. If cv blows you can lock the front and 3 wheel drive it, they wheel ok in 3wd Ive done it a few times.

Steering is an issue, widening the stance is an issue with stock components and leverage. Its more a novelty than anything.
H1s used them but they were also built and designed that way from the start. Unimog is the same way. The idea of keeping your center of gravity low goes out the window with portals also.

Portal axles are easily the best lift on paper.

I would never commit a set to a tacoma personally, at that point I'd be looking at custom chassis or short wheel base.

Still neat that they did it.

    One looks killer.

    Agree:20k no way.

I’m sticking with my SR, 5100 bilstein, new leaf pack plan for $1500.

    #TRD for non- TRD price.

Not really practical for a daily driven truck. Too much unsprung weight down at the wheels.

74weld is nominally better because it's lighter and doesn't stick out as far. Neither company addresses the weak factory rack, so you'll have to come up with your solution (like the Tundra rack swap).

Portals are detrimental to fitting larger tires in the front, because they massively increase scrub radius, akin to putting 3" wheel spacers on.

Better to go RCLT or a good long-arm solid axle swap, like the Martec 3-link:

there’s definitely some to choose from, no idea what’s better or why

    -JDFab LT front
    -Marlin RCLT
    -MarTec SAS
-rear link; WarFab just started selling a rear link kit
-Archive rear shock relocate 12” or 14”
-wider stronger rear diff upgrade from ECGS (Dana 60?)

Theres always talk of kinda small front diff being made into the weak point after big tires and RCV’s; SAS swap would beef that up

no idea if Portals also needs that up
they say with Humvees, gearing is done at the portals taking stress off the diff

not sure if portals actually do that (take the stress off the diff)
ie going up a rock with front locked
