This is my first time on TacomaWorld so I’m sorry if this question has already been asked and answered. I just recently purchased a 2016 TRD OR. Huge upgrade from my ‘93 Toyota pick-up that I’ve drove for the last decade. I’m extremely unknowledgeable when it comes to anything mechanical so please bare with me. I really wanna lift my truck 2”-3.5” and get bigger tires. I have no idea what brand or what exactly to even look for regarding any of this. One of my biggest concerns is mpg so I don’t want huge tires but bigger tires. I’m averaging 18-20mpg rn and someone I know with the same truck just the base trim model went with a 6” lift and 33’s and now is down to 12mpg so if anyone has any experience and recommendations that would be extremely appreciated. Thanks!AF1C220D-05E7-4C94-975C-D7709D1A7E81.jpg

If MPG is your biggest concern, don’t lift. Don’t get bigger tires. Welcome to TW.

    Seriously.

Well I’m okay with dropping some mpg but not all the way down to 12 lol someone told me on reddit that I can get bigger tires but not full 33’s and still keep most of my mpg. Is that true?

Lots of guys getting 15 on stock tires. Some get 20. YMMV with a tire change.

Lots of info here regarding lifts, tire size, mods needed, etc. so if you’re interested I’d check out the suspension forum.

That said, if your number one goal is MPG then leave it stock. You can always try a more aggressive tire in stock size.

I still want a lift lol I’ll check out the suspension threads. I guess my main concern is after lifting what’s the smallest tires I can get that won’t make it look like my truck skipped leg day lol

I'm getting 16 mpg on my 255/85R16 (33") M/Ts with 35 psi. 2" lift, no air dam, manual transmission.

    EDIT: e-load

OME or Dobinson make a good quality middle of the road lift for about 1300 dollars

Kings and Fox if you have money to blow

Im on 265/75/r16 c-load duratracs, currently no lift, i top out at about 20 mpg

    Welcome to TW

I’m lifted on 265/75R16 C load Terra Grapplers, and I still get 18-20mpg, and 22-24+ on long highway trips. If you’re 4x4, keep the lift under 2.5”. If you go extended travel, or over 2.5” then you’ll need UCAs which add another $500 to the total.

As mentioned, if you’re just going for looks, spacer lift

For a little performance upgrade, go with Bilstein 5100s with stock coils or OME Coils. Or OME/ Dobinsons/ Eibach set up, all similar systems.

for a little more performance, but a little more cost, bilstein 6112 and 5160.

for a little more cost and even better performance, Fox 2.0s.

for highest cost but most performance, Fox or King 2.5 coilovers.

these are the most common/best options on here.

thank you for your information and the welcome.. I only understood about 1/3rd of what you said lol this guy sent me a link on reddit for a lift(he claims it’s the best for Tacoma’s)and it was over $5k which turned me off since that doesn’t include installation or new tires and I’m completely incapable of installing it myself.. but I would be okay paying $5k if that also included tires and installation

I’m definitely looking for performance. I have property that borders 1000s of acres of logging property that I have access to and I live by a whole bunch of mountain trails so I wanna go off-roading with it but looks is still important. I truly thank you for your info. I’ll look into the Fox and King since I’m in a situation rn where I don’t really care about money and just wanna make my truck the best and most fun truck haha

I run Fox 2.5 with resi in the front, and 2.0 with resi in the rear, adjustable. Great on and off road. Super happy with my choice. Accutune off-road does custom tuning on Fox and king free of charge with purchase, and their website has a ton of Great info comparing the two “top contenders”

either way. Check out their website for their options and then message them on here with questions. You can also check out their forum for info, but I would recommend not starting a new thread as this is a question asked 5 times a day.
