    What's the best leafpack?
I hear there's pretty much only 3 to pick from.
    -OME medium duty
-OME heavy duty (both called Dakar)
    -Icon RXT

    From what I've heard:
-OME leafpacks suck. They squeak and sag. Not sure if even cheaper than Icon
-Icon RXT is supposedly the best. I think they used to be $1k but now appear to be $600-700/set

currently running OEM TSB leafs w/ cheap AAL + spacers and hoping to replace it at some point to resolve the axle wrap
truck feels weird accelerating and I'm sure that's contributing

Before this thread takes off I'll say it, all but the cheapest light duty no-name leaf pack will be an improvement over the stock springs.

No squeak or sag with OME springs. 4 years in use.
If had to do over would just get the medium load spring.

I own a turd gen but my OME mediums have been great, and i have a fiberglass shell…

And lbest” leaf pack for what type of usage? Constant load, frequent hauling, desert running?

so is heavy for weighted beds ie camper shell + roof top tent?
as opposed to medium duty for everything else?

I heard if driving with heavy duty leafpack and bed unloaded, that it makes for a horrible ride
so maybe that would make medium-duty worth it in that case...

honestly, hauling is non frequent. no constant load. no desert running.
These trucks are 4x4 rocky mountain climbers; never had the intent to delete front axles and drive 5hr to drive some circles in a sandbox

actual desert trucks don't use leafs

Okay then for your use id say custom deavers would be the best.
Otherwise i like my medium duty dakars for riding Forest Service roads

I'd rather stab myself in the face than run dakars again. Squeaky garbage. Deavers, RTX, or ATS springs (have been fantastic for me)

Icon RXT IMO. Have installed a few sets, they are really nice. Come with an extra leaf and can be configured to 3 different stages. Like buying 3 leaf packs in one.

My OME were sqeaky but performed well.

Yeah I really don't know if custom is best or not
I imagine it's better because what you lose in load carrying capacity, you might gain in ride comfort
ie 300lb springrate (if that is such a thing) vs 600lb for more weight in the bed

unless something universal is fine that can handle varied normal use (every Tacoma carries stuff sometimes)
not to say my spacer + AAL couldn't carry anything, it would just sag.
I think Deaver is $1100 vs. $700 for RXT, so the lower price makes RXT sound more appealing
plus the customization options of it; they ship you extra leafs I think, for you to pick how to set it up based on things like desired ride height

really will be looking to match prior ride height, as I have OME 887 front springs kind of matched regarding truck height measurements
I'll have to check FTG but I think the rear is basically 2.5" above stock, due to AAL (1.5"?) + spacer - the spacer was either 1" or 1/2" because sellers claim the way spacers work is that they double actual vs. lifted height
aka 1/4" taco front lean spacer = 1/2" lift, or 1/2" rear block = 1" lift
so if I was looking for 1" lift that means I'd have put a 1/2" spacer, which I can get under the truck to double check/measure
Toytec spacer + Toytec AAL which probably sources from Deaver, the same that Headstrong Offroad uses

because if I swap out for a whole leafpack that accidentally lowers the rear some, that would mess everything up

    exactly

Those of you with medium duty leaf springs, any of you running them unloaded, no additional weight in rear beyond stock? If so how is the ride? What are you pairing them with?

@ARCHIVE has leaf springs coming. Dobinsons have been decent so far for me, but they never fixed the 2nd leaf being too long and damaging the shackle when fully fixed, like many other options on the market.

I had the Icon RXT's for a bit. They were fine, but I quickly realized my truck is too heavy for them.

I replaced them with a custom pack from Alcan and have been happy so far.

I'm going to throw the little known Ironman 4x4 leaf packs for consideration. Been running these for several years now and will eventually replace with another leaf pack from Ironman. Ride is smooth, unloaded or loaded, with zero squeaks. They have Black friday sales going on until 11/29.

Stiff, even with a long box. Still a huge improvement over the stock leafs, but still would buck over sharp bumps, especially on corners. This was paired with Fox 2.0 Resi non-adjustable (digressive valving, to be fair). With Elka 2.5 DSC, on a soft low speed compression setting the rear feels a lot more planted. No bucking and more smooth than you'd expect for an empty box.

With the Fox 2.0s, the sweet spot was about 200-300lbs in the back. With the Elka's on softer low speed compression, the sweet spot is about 100lbs in the back.

I have All Pro Expedition leafs on my 2.5gen and I love them. They gave a bit more lift than I wanted (~3"), but they ride fantastically with only a fiberglass topper - a 10x improvement over stock handling, and they flex really well off-road.

They're also a relatively cheap option, the only complaint I have about them is that you'll have to get creative with securing the e-brake lines, there's no pre-drilled hole for the bracket and no aftermarket options fit AP leafs.

Icon RXT option 3. Bilstein Pro suspension. I have a cap and a cap rack on the bed. No other weight unless I have the bed loaded up with shit.

    Rides like a dream.
