Anyone have any thoughts/recommendations for insurance companies with good customer support? I've been using Safeco and they are really bad! Just getting a hold of them I have to play the " press the right button" game and almost have to trick them to give me real person, then I get told to contact my agent at clearlink, which immediately goes to voicemail after a message saying agent is not available at this time, that was days ago, and if you press the file a claim option with agent , nothing happens, just silence, no option to leave a voicemail or god forbid a actual person, I'm done with the Walmart of insurance companies, oh and I just found out for some reason my agent never added or mentioned road side assistance to my "full" coverage even though it's only $16 a year extra and now they want to charge me $350 to tow my truck 35 miles

    I have USAA.
As for service, they are great.
They are currently still the cheats I’ve found.
Although I’m a bit annoyed at them currently.

I bundled my home and car insurance and got about a $35 discount on my truck per month.
10 months later, the house insurance went up $354 a year and the truck $9 a month.
Ehhhh……WTF. I kind of feel like the low rates were “to get me to sign on”. And now they are upping the price to fall in line with all the rest.

I suppose, “It is, what it is”. Pay my money and hope for the best should I ever need to use the insurance.

Ever since Safeco joined with Liberty Mutual, they went downhill from there. They used to be really good, like a lot of ins companies.

For political reasons I avoid Progressive. Had homeowners with USAA--went to Allstate. Still have Auto with USAA. Might change that.

Before you make your selection, talk to the body shop you take your car to. Ask them who is the best to deal with. When I talked to mine, they said State Farm was the only company that doesn't second and third guess their assessments and approves OEM parts. All the rest are a PITA and force aftermarket when available.

I'm not a State Farm employee, hell I don't even have State Farm. I'm currently with Allstate but if/when I get my new Taco I'll be switching.

Allsnake is one of the worst. First hand experience here.

Edit: As of a couple years ago AAA was the best, followed by State Farm and USAA. I'm sure some have had bad experiences with all of them, but if I was shopping I'd want one of those. 15 years body shop experience dealing with insurance companies.

I can't disagree. BIGGEST PITA for me is the fact they don't send my insurance cards and half of the time they don't send me an email when it's due. The fact that my agent said they HAD to have my bank account number to do auto withdrawals for my premiums seems so sketchy. State Farm is about the same price without all that garbage. Luckily I've never had to collect on an home or auto claim. The absolute worst out there (if you're in the midwest) is Country Companies. Talk about a company that thrives on insurance fraud...

To me it is not so much the company but your agent!

a great agent to work with makes a very big difference.

USAA is great as far as rates go but I've found their agents to be absolute shit when it comes to working on auto insurance claims. Felt like they needed their hand held for every god damn step.

I've always had a positive experience with State Farm. They are definitely not the cheapest, but when I need help....like a good neighbor, State Farm is there! :anonymous:

Like mentioned above, it's more the agent than the company. I had horrible experiences with state farm. Currently have home and vehicles bundled with AAA

I’ve only had to use them for windshield chip repair. And that went pretty easy.

I hope that I never have to use any insurance.

Not sure where OP is located at, but if it's an option, I've been using NJM (New Jersey Manufacturers) for over 30 years. Rates are incredibly competetive, and I've never had any issues dealing with them. Heck, they even issue dividend checks back on a just about yearly basis. They used to have very limited enrollment (you needed to be employed by a company that was part of their network) but I believe it's more open now.

I have had my automobiles insured with USAA for about 15+ years now. They are not the absolute cheapest, fairly close, though.

I have had them give me quotes for homeowners...... entirely different story. They are always the #1 or #2 highest quotes I ever get when I am shopping around. And that goes for my previous homes in California, as well as here in Kentucky. I was quite surprised by that, but it is what it is.

Also, USAA doesn't do motorcycle/ATV coverage, they farm it out to other companies. My motorcycles always ended up with Progressive as the carrier, but as part of their "partnership with USAA" arrangement. Their motorcycle rates were either very good, or very bad, depending on the size of the motorcycle's engine and type of motorcycle.

Speaking of agents I needed to call mine today got the voice mail .

Did not want to leave a message called the main company 800 number .

Before I was through the computer menu. My agent called my back had all my information pulled up already.

She told me the people that transport the mail are causing so many issues in both directions.

My father was in the auto salvage business and while his dealings with them were okay, he said he'd never use them for his insurance.

We've used Amica for over 40 years for home, auto, life. Very good to deal with, you deal directly with them, they don't have agents.
