I know that there are going to be lots of different opinions, but I need new lights. My lights have a protective rubber coating that was put over them. My 1999 Tacoma was first used as a search and rescue rig from the Bothel fire department and am assuming they had them put on for protection. They are really starting to look blurry and because it is some kind of rubber, I can’t polish. They are also something that I just can’t remove as well without damaging the lenses. I will try and get some pictures up later. My wife wants to buy this for me for a birthday present so money is no object! Thanks for all your help and replies.

Money is no object? Build a set of retrofits (Its easy and there are tons of diy threads and youtube video's). Should be able to do it for under $250 and you will be stoked with the light output.

You can probably get those lens protectors off your stock lights with some heat. Try using a heat gun and slowly peel it back. You might just find a perfectly good lens under there.

@The Jester , Those look like old school Glass Headlights. I'd try and rebuild them. They don't get all foggy and crappy looking like the new Plastic ones.

Yes, if they are glass, keep them! They will not fade like the plastic replacements from UV exposure.
Then do the Ultimate Headlight Upgrade linked several times above to get a higher wattage bulb in there.

My OEM that I replaced a few months ago were plastic. Were there some years that got glass?

Yeah i got the mean looking taco personally i like the face on the 95.5-97 imo 98-2000 look weird, 2001-2004 looked good, id just go on ebay or Amazon or you can shop around and find some on offerup, craigslist, facebook marketplace, or even a pick your part

I don't know a single guy who doesn't love huge headlights, except this guy.
