Thanks. I think I may actually have some double-sticky tape on hand.....

Windshield installer glued my down on a 2018 with the caulk he uses for windshield installs. Never came off and I take my vehicle to full service car washes once or twice a week.

The problem I had was, the rubber strip doesn’t go deep enough in the metal channel to touch one layer of double sided tape. I didn’t want to do it this way, but was pressed for time, and stacked a few layers tall (made about 4 squares for each side). It’s held for a couple of years, so I haven’t gone to my next try; some type of silicone or whatever paste in a tube. That way I could fill the void (maybe in a several spots) and still be able to remove if it ever needed to be.

"clips" yeah, they dont hold very well. I glued the clips then duct taped the trim down until it was cured.

No it seems the factory design was a little bit of friction, and primarily relies on gravity.

The glue worked the best for me. I put a couple of daps along the track, let it cure over night. I have no intentions of ever pulling the rubber strips up so that is why I used the glue.

There are clips at the front and rear but, they dont hold well. windshield urethane sealant will hold, for a very long time. just be warned... it is like anti-seize, and it gets on everything, everywhere, no matter how clean and careful you are. it only cleans up with solvents. do not get it on cloth interior, or any clothing you really like. it will not come out, ever. one day out of the blue, one of mine flew off...I just happened to hear it fluttering before it went airborne. I picked it up and put it back and it hasn't gone anywhere since.

Maybe 3m weatherstrip and gasket adhesive. Not sure if that's any different than the 3m mentioned above though.

Happened on my gen 2. I used Liquid Nails and never had a problem thereafter. Have not seen problem yet on my Gen 3.

it seems to be the cross winds from the carwash blowers, and mine (and I think others) didn't start until the truck was about a year old, they seem to barely hang on for a bit.

before you glue it down, check the seals where holes are for roof rack bolts. The hole goes through the roof, and if the sealant fails, water will get in. If it leaks, you won't see any sign except that the seat belt will be wet when you pull it out. had this happen on 2 older Tacomas, and on my 2023 one after the dealer installed the factory rack.
