I know there are numerous threads where this has been discussed, but I haven't seen any conclusive reports. I'm looking for a bug deflector that will ACTUALLY help minimize bugs on the windshield - living in the south, I get splatters non-stop now that spring has sprung. More than I've had on any other vehicles, but that's probably due to the boxy shape that catches anything that it comes in contact with. I also has a small pebble crack the windshield within weeks of owning the truck and would like to mitigate against that happening again real soon!

So - What do you use? What do you like about it? What don't you like? How's the wind noise? And - does it ACTUALLY protect your windshield or just help with your hood protection?

None? I have a Weathertech one on my truck, and it neither deflects bugs nor rocks. I have a giant rock chip about an inch above my wiper, plus other small ones. Mine is just on there because it looks cool, and makes my truck feel like it's a badass. It's like an Affliction shirt. Wearing it doesn't make you a UFC fighter, but don't you feel bro-cool wearin it around with your Tap Out hat.

Yep, seems to be the consensus. Looks cool, may protect the hood somewhat, but little to no protection for the windshield. Interested if anyone has different experiences with the AVS ones or others. I almost plunged for the more expensive weathertech but kept seeing mixed reviews. Truck looks badass enough for me right now, so looking for function over looks at this point.

Bug deflectors look cool? Since when? All the stuff you see today, all they do is protect the leading edge of the hood from rock chips, everything above that nope. If you want to stop bugs you need one that curves up heavily to direct air over the window, I haven't seen one of those in years.

I originally bought mine hoping that it would help protect the hood and windshield, but I do also like the look of it on my truck. Mostly I was making fun of myself for having what is a non-functional piece of plastic on my truck, whose only purpose could be to "look cool".

You're better off getting a clear bra or vinyl on your hood.

I had one similar to this in 1980 on my Chebby P/U,,, it was clear and worked very well...
The crap they call "bug deflectors" today are NOT bug deflectors. They only drawback of that one I had was it created a "vortex" behind itself and F'd up my windshield washers if I was at Hwy speed....!! It killed bugs though...
It was like my wife.....UGLY as hell, but she worked...!! LOL

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I personally think they look cool. I find they do work to an extent for the hood but not so much for the windshield. My 20 year old 4Runner has very few dings on the hood. My Tacoma has 2 marks at 108,000 miles. My first windshield survived 6 years and I work next to an off-ramp with 3 huge gravel quarries and a million belly dumpers running around each day.
