Hello guys, I know that toyota is a company that is super strict about their oem parts and all, and i've seen a guy do a write up on here using the TRD pads. Are the TRD brake pads any good? I personally love the powerstop combos. Their Z36 truck and tow kit is what I had on my last vehicle when I towed and they were amazing for the money. I mow for a living and have a 6x12 enclosed trailer with no trailer brakes. I'm looking to add some to it eventually and get a good controller. From my estimation, its in the neighborhood of 2,750-2,800lbs. Since my front brakes are still good and rotors are in good shape, no need to replace yet. When I do need to replace, for people that use their taco to tow, or, drive fast, if any of you guys have experience with the TRD performance pads, id love to hear your opinions. I want to get the most out of the factory braking system as I can. And if you guys have a particular pad and rotor setup that you guys use, I am curious to hear your opinions on that as well.

And here I am wishing my brakes weren't so intense. The brakes on my TRD OR are very very grabby despite changing pads.

Most recommendations you will get are OEM.

Also get a brake controller, they do more then slow you down, It's much safer to tow with one.

I used Stoptech slotted cryo rotors and TRD pads and it has reduced brake fade.

I live in the mountains and tow often.

Hearing you say that about their pads makes me want to try them. I'm all about having brakes and rotors that can take heat.

Good to know, I know what zcolorado said is right to. The only thing is since my trailer is a single axle 6x12, I'm assuming the reason why it has no brakes is since it's not required by law on my trailer. But after one day of a idiot being in the middle of the road and I couldnt stop my load on a downhill is making me want to get the stuff to add and wire up brakes on it. And I definitely want good brakes on the truck as well.

I've been running powerstop z36 with their drilled and slotted rotors on both the 2nd and 3rd gen Tacoma. I have 0 dust on my wheels, never had any warping issues. A couple times I did heavy breaking under heavy acceleration and speeding back up with very little brake fade. Rotors have almost no rust on them since its zinc coated. Overall no complaints

I love their Z36 kits. I had one on my last vehicle and it was great. I was highly contemplating on getting them for this when the pads on it now wear.

I tow a lot with the Tacoma and the wife does also with her Tundra, I have Brembo blanks with EBC red pads on my truck. The stock brakes in the Tacoma I thought where very good especially for a truck but these take them to a step above, they also have been lasting quite a long time... my Tacoma's brakes have about 100k miles on them and still a ways away from wear indicators. The wife's Tundra I have just installed EBC blanks and EBC red pads and this combo is also tremendous. Her stock brakes where quite shot and compared to them it stops like a Corvette now lol.

I've also had good results from Bosch and higher end Powerstop setups. The basic powerstop products kind of suck in my experience though but I know a lot of people like them. Also I know Stop-tech is popular if you're looking for cheap but never used them myself.

You can't go wrong with those. I love trying new products but I've been running these for years without any problems and I know what to expect out of them so I see no reason to change it

I have also considered wanting to try ebc. I have seen the orange pads, I think those are their extra duty pads. I thought of trying those with their rotors.

100% agree with you, I'm the same, I like to try new things. I loved the Z36 on my last vehicle.

You really have me wanting to try ebc from hearing from you, especially for you telling me the 100k life, that's crazy. I looked at their extra duty pads. Apparently they just released those from what it sounds like. From the description from what they say, it really had my attention. Now, I know on my last vehicle, I planned on keeping it until the water pump went out, never again will I own a Ford. They are to complicated and stupid expensive to fix when they break. But I had the powerstop Z36 kit on it, I only put tops 10k on them before I sold the car. Maybe less. I'm just trying to estimate. So, Idk about their life span. Then again, I've always been taught in automotive courses when I was still in school every 40k you change them. But yeah, hearing your experience, you really have me wanting to try the ebc. Thank you guys, I was curious to hear all your thoughts. I just put some powerstop rear brake shoes on my truck, I had a rear axle seal leak. So, I just had them put on. I've had my truck for only 7months, best decision I ever made buying a truck. They put new brakes on it before they sold it to me. And checking behind the wheel, I could tell they did, they had plenty of pad. And as you said, I'll admit, for a truck, the brakes are decent. So, I can only imagine once I get a good setup on it. Thanks guys for all your opinions. I'll consider all these.

To be fair I use engine braking a lot especially when towing so maybe that has helped extend the life of the brakes but I would definitely recommend them to anyone willing to spend a little extra money.

Long life on brake pads/rotors is also not a good indicator for stopping performance.

I'm using powerstop z36 brakes myself. Absolutely love them. Especially considering the price and how long the pads last. I just checked my pads because I thought I might be close to having to change them out after 40,000 miles, but nope not even close. Still have a good two thirds left. And yes, they stop just fine. Never had a problem with brake fade.

I had those on my last car and loved them. When it comes to the life, I have no idea. Didn't have the car long enough. I sold it about 2 months after installing them. But I will say, I loved them.
