I tried google but found more info on 2nd gen and below.

Any recommendations on skid plates? And which to go with first? I do more road trip/overland type of off-roading and a few rocky trails over the weekends which has started giving me the heebie Jeebies. Nothing major. But better safe than sorry.

Are 2nd gen skids made out of different material?

No, just don’t know if any aftermarket skid plates for a 2nd gen fit a 3rd gen.

How’s the aluminum holding up for you? Sounds like a great way to shave some weight.

I have the RCI IFS and trans skid and when I purchased them they were the cheaper option of the ones available. They have saved my truck from some serious damages, but I tend to wheel a lot harder than most so the skids are all bent up. had them removed to do some work and to get them back on, 2 floor jacks had to assist. I will probably be going BAMF skids later. However for the peace of mind they work great! ANY skid would work great.

I too went with RCI which I ordered last December for they had a % sale going on. I haven't installed it yet but am happy with it. Another all aluminum one that isn't 'popular' on here is ricochet too. If you scour some atv or motorcycle forums sometimes they offer a % discount too which can be used for Tacoma skids.

They are doing their job! I have bottomed several times and see scrapes and dents in them. They don't take near the abuse that steel would, so there are trade-offs.

@Mobtown Offroad is my recommendation. Options for aluminum as well if you decent to go that route. They are reinforced on the inside to make them a little stronger.

Seems like a lot of skids are copies of their steel counterpart, reinforced aluminum sounds pretty awesome. I’ll definitely look into them!

Well, our steel ones are reinforced too, so I guess we copied the steel counterpart as well.

x2 for those @Mobtown Offroad fellas. Pretty decent group of Joes. I will say if you don't want to add a lot of weight, don't get their steel ones cuz they heavy AF. But boy do they protect your belly.

    Really considering aluminum.
Plus, the dents might give me some street cred... mall crawlers will never know they’re aluminum :anonymous: Haha

I was also considering a hybrid of steel and aluminum. Steel for things that’ll definitely get rammed and aluminum for everything else.
