I, too, have a McCullough and love it! Unsure of the original price,as, I got it for a present. Just make sure you run distilled water through it, to prevent mineral build up in the boiler, etc. Excellent tool for cleaning engine compartment, undercarriage and frame after winter. I have even run the steam over the body panels, and immediately wipe down the steamed areas with a quality microfiber towel to remove dust or chalky residue from certain polishing compounds. The steam does not seem to diminish the wax or polish coat, if you don' hold the wand tip too close to the surfaces.
Also, for just several cups of water, you get a long working time with the steam. I' talking, like 25-30 minutes of v steam. The little boiler is really efficient. Don' let its' small size and no frills fool you....really an excellent machine!
As far as carpets & upholstery, I use my steamer in conjunction with Resolve cleaner for "maintenance" cleaning. The steam, used alone, does an excellent job of breaking the bond of ink, candy, mud, grease, etc.
