Looking for my first set of new tires for my 2018 Trd. Currently have 62k on the factory set and could go a bit more.

Was considering going to a c for gas mileage and trying to look into AT options and their longevity

So far maybe ridge grapplers or KO2s

thoughts on either or other options?

Gas mileage and ATs don't compute. Going to a C from factory SLs will make it worse.

Michelin defenders if you want to noticably improve mileage. :cookiemonster:

Stay in SL if you want to maintain mileage.

Looking at Tire Rack's website the Goodyears that the Pros are equipped with from the factory are under 40lbs a piece while most of the other offerings are about 45lbs.

Weight is a big factor but whether or not it's measurable beats me.

Here are a couple that are relatively light and have high UTQG ratings.

I just put SL 265/70R17 Toyo Open County ATIII's on my truck. So far, fuel economy is similar to the factory 265/65r17 Toyo Open Country A30's I removed. They are also reasonably quiet for an AT. As for longevity... I only have 500kms on them so far. Interestingly I have yet to wear off the nubs off from the molding process.

Tires lose compound grip with age. 4-5 years and done.

If you drive 15k/yr, a 60k tread wear is your sweet spot.

If you want aggressive looks, you'll pay at the pump.

Firestone Destination A/T2 is a good wearing tire and only weighs about 36 lbs. So it should be good for gas mileage. It's a good snow tire. You can review the specs at Tire Rack.

ARE. More awesome is “some kind” of fuel economy from a lighter weight tire

I just went from KO2s to these and notice a pretty significant jump in MPGs.

With the very little description of how you use your truck, I'm also in the camp of Michelin Defender stock size SL/P load as the thing that would be the smartest.

Now I get it, we don't always want the smart thing...

Toyo AT3 gang checking in. A tire so good at 265 I bought it again when I increased to 295s. Low road noise even at 100mph, acceptable MPG, amazing grip offroad, my truck walks up everything. Also they look good.

Here's a pic after we finished the Rubicon. Way too much for a truck on 265s and a shitty 2/1 lift at the time, but we did it, and a large reason we were able to do it is these tires didn't slip a single inch. You can see how beat to shit the sidewalls got from all the rocks. Zero damage. No drama at 15PSI.

Oh, this thread was about MPG? Don't buy an A/T tire for MPG. Expect at least -1 MPG worse than an average H/T with any A/T.
