I just got a 19' SR 4x4 Access 2.7 and would like to keep it stock expect for the tires and a shell. My main goal is to maintain stock MPG, while still being able to have enough traction to keep up with my friends when over-landing and light off roading' 1-3x a month on the weekends. If they look better than all the better. The name of this truck is economical and utilitarian.

I'm assuming from what I have read and learned on this forum that I want at 265/75/16 in C rating (not E), and would like to stick with mainstream brands Toyo, BFG, General Grabber, Cooper and spend 140-210$ a tire. The threads below are the best that I have found that address this request but they are both a little outdated (2010ish). At most I would be willing to take a .5 to 1.0 drop in MPG. Is this reasonable? Thanks for your support and recommendations in advance.

Tires I have looked at BFG T/A K02 (don't seem available in C rating in a 16), Toyo Open Country A/T 2, General Grabber AT (x and 2), Cooper S/T Maxx (seem to heavy, only available in E).

    - ICON UCAs, BP51/Kings, SCS wheels, 285s, Leer 100XR canopy. Greenlane aluminum winch bumper, Smittybilt X20 winch. Trying Falken AT3w now, Really like BF KO2s.
You might want to check out the Yokohama G015 in SL for 38 lbs. or LT at 49lbs. if you are wanting to keep close to original MPG.

use the 245/75/16 size to maintain performance and MPGs ESPECIALLY with the 2.7l engine. the best tire is MICHELIN AT2 the lightest weight AT is the KUMHO AT51 in the P 245/75/16 size

i was in the same boat as you. wanted something that looked good , wouldn't kill my mpg and be able to get me where i wanted to go. i initially went with general grabber atx. there's a thread on those i posted in if you want the details, lol. they were nice but didn't work out. i then put on goodyear trail runners. they are light, have a much more aggressive pattern than the stock tires i had and so far have been very pleased with them. i'd give them a look

Falken AT3W in SL rating. Zero change to mpg, great on and off road. Got 45,000 miles on mine and they are still going.

    You would recommend the 265/70/16?

Did the Grabber's drop you significantly?

I had set of Falken AT3W SL 265/75/16, bought them brand new from carID, these had great reviews by lots of Taco owners. BUT I did not like them, lots of road noise over 55mph, shimmy on the highway, worst when below 40 degrees C. Had them road force balanced by local tire shop and Discount Tires, didn't help.

I got rid of the Falkens after 4 months / 5000 miles, went with Cooper Discoverer AT3 4S, SL, same size. Cooper looks less aggressive, but it is way quieter than the Falken, no shimmy on highway. Drove through 2 snow storms, very happy with them. Cooper lighter at 41 lbs vs Falken 44 lbs, Cooper warranty 65,000 miles vs Falken 55,000 miles.

I got the Cooper mounted balanced out the door for $562 at Discount Tires.

My gas mileage didn't change much between the Falken and Cooper, but it is worst by about 2 mpg compared to the stock Goodyear Wranglers. Wranglers are smaller at 276/70/16, and lighter at 37 lbs.

they did drop the mpg by about 2 but the issue was with the tires itself. in short, the tire shop thought i got a bad batch of tires and blew out 2 sidewalls.. there is a thread about the general grabber atx where i described the issues. they are good looking tire and i wish they would've worked out.

So I'm about to pull the trigger on the Toyo Open Country At2s in C 6ply. I'm not going to do any serious 4x4 with them, but will fire road consistently in all 4 seasons. The 265-75-16s weigh 45pnds an the 265-70s weigh 40. If the stock tire is 31 pnds, which would you go for if MPG was the primary concern, off road use 2nd? For a V6-3.5.

For every other reason the 265 75
    I think you’ll wish you’d have gone larger if you don’t, but that’s just me. I’m running 265 75 16.
