After doing the math it was cheaper to go with Crutchfield. I needed to trim the rear brackets with wire cutters so the speaker fit properly. I used the ********* video on how to remove the door panels. They sound great. Thinking of getting an amp now. :)

Nice find! I was more the opinion of, if you're going to upgrade it why not add some power behind it, too! But you're right, for the size of a truck cab, lower powered systems can sound just as good and for a fraction of the cost.

Installed the Rockford fosgates today. Wow. They bump. Left the tweeters alone and this thing sounds amazing

It looks to me like your speaker mounting bracket is not installed correctly. I bet a ton of sound is/was getting trapped inside your door. Your speaker should stick out, not be inset into the door.

You're looking for something like this:

I'm going with Infinity reference as well. Lower impedance will give a higher db with the same input, a high efficiency rating will give a higher db regardless of what the marketing department claims, and the Infinity reference speakers I looked at start around 33 hz which is great for a 6x9. Sound deadening is a must with such a low frequency range. I'll probably install mine in custom sealed fiberglass enclosures as well. If I get energetic I might even play with porting, we'll see...

I know this is a bit old but I have infinity reference component 6×9's up front and I used infinity primus 6.5 components in the back doors. Rockford fosgate 4ch amp for power. I've tried almost every speaker brand in my cars through out the years and always seem to like infinity the best for the money. I tell everyone that asks, infinity for the doors and jl audio for my sub is my go to. Heard focal, helix, morel, ct sound, ect. They sound great but out of my price range. Infinity seems to be the ticket for me. Just my opinion tho.

I think your opinion is a good one. It doesn't sound like you compete in sound offs but are actually in the real world with real world expectations.

Thanks, but its more of a real world budget, lol. If I could I would go crazy on it. I agree with hotboatrod on the sound deadening. Its worth doing. I even did the lid, floor, back wall, everything but the pillars. Thats where all my money went lol.

I did a crazy amount of sound deadening on 2 vehicles. A mid 90's 4 door Civic with an insane sound system I built and a 66 Chevelle bad ass AF had everything.... it can get expensive. Lol.

A little bit can go a long way on large flatter panels, above mufflers/cats on the floor, behind speakers, and inside front kick panels/wheelwells. On some sedans a little will help on the rear wheel wells as well. Roofs and hoods are definitely in need but be cautious and go with a lighter deadoner and you don't have to cover the whole damn thing for a daily driver with average requirements.

I did the lid and hood although it wasn't necessary. Your right about a lighter deadener, I used too much at first and had a hell of a time getting the headliner back in. Had to remove some to get it to fit. Overall all its probably one of the best improvements in sq.

2 way or 3 way, if both are well designed, it doesn't matter. The end result should be anechoic flat-ish. 3-Way may handle a little more power in most cases, but that's not true globally with comparables. Active systems are a different story, but mostly due to how much control you gain. It's possible to dick up an active system though.

    Bottom line: Neither is better.
