Magnaflow didn't renew their patent. So I went to a knock off called Street Flow. Just cut off the factory muffler and welded in a Street Flow.

I have the MBRP catback and I love it. Sounds great and easy to install! Wayyyyyyy better than stock but not obnoxious. Fine with road trips too..none of this droning that people talk about. Definitely recommend!

Had an MBRP and the drone was unbearable, even with a sound deadened cab. Rusted out after about two years as well. Such garbage.
Went with a Borla S-type and it’s 1000% better. Quiet while cruising and makes some noise when you get on it.

I had/have the same one loved the way banks exhaust sounds. But didn't hold up against our north east weather. Lasted about 3 yrs. I just bought the mbrp exhaust as it was a cheaper replacement. The way I look at it if it lasts 3 to 4 yrs it's payed for it's self.

Mine has been installed since 2017. Still good. Driven in NY year round. It definitely sounds awesome.

That hasn't been my experience. I get a slight drone, but not at cruising RPMs. I've had it for 3-4 years at this point, still does it's job.

I live in California though, so rust issues aren't really a thing.

People will say what they want about aftermarket exhausts and v6 Tacomas but you do you, you're the one driving it everyday. I held out for years but finally had a Flowmaster Super 40 welded in and it sounds really nice and deeper than I had expected. It gets a little tinny sounding around redline but I don't drive my truck around like that. At the end of the day it's a v6 so it will never have that v8 purr everybody tries to achieve by putting on mufflers on Tacomas. In short I should have done it much sooner and you would be surprised at the amount of people who have randomly told me how good my truck sounds.

just a couple of things tbh
i like how everyone thinks that when someone gets an exhaust system they want the sound of a v8.... they just want the sound not because they want a v8... but i guess time of old is still a thing....

I had a Gibson exhaust on my 08 4.0l and it was great, louder than stock but not annoying. Actually liked it so much that I now have a Gibson exhaust on my 2017.

I went from stock to magnaflow 18” to Carven-R. With exhaust sounds it’s super subjective. I had my taco straight piped for a while as I waited for the correct exhaust adapter to fit the Carven muffler. My 12 year old son preferred the straight pipe sound…I toned it down slightly with the Carven-R. I ran the magnaflow for 10 years and just wanted a louder muffler. Id recommend no chambered muffler, go straight through design. Good luck!

I really like the TRD cat back. Great tone without any drone and quiets down in overdrive on the highway.

+1 on the TRD. I tried the 3” AFE Mach Force exhaust for a few months, took it off and reinstalled the TRD for a few months… then had 2nd thoughts on the AFE so I reinstalled/retried for a few months… no bueno- too much rasp and too loud.

so, as of 2 weeks ago I am back with the TRD installed along w/ URD headers and AFE cat y pipe. Sounds great! Not obnoxiously loud, no highway drone or high rev rasps, and is a better fit than Afe if you’re running shackle flips on your leafs.

I ended up with an off brand ram air intake and a flowmaster super 40. At highway speeds I hear my tires more than intake/exhaust, but it gets decently loud at higher rpm. Sounds alright for a v6 too. Can't say anything in the horsepower department, but I've consistently picked up an extra 1-1.5 avg mpgs per tank since having both installed
