Hi guys, I'm gonna have my friend change the belts for the 2004 Tacoma v6. Which belts do you recommend? Just the 3 belts , not the timing belt. I can get band 3 kit from Amazon at around 28 bucks. Should I get the oem from the dealer??

My truck has had Mitsuboshi Belts for as long as I can remember without issue. I don't think accessory belts are something you should absolutely get OEM for, brands like Continental or Denso are fine. Timing belt is another story, I'd only use OEM for that.

I agree. For belts, you'll be fine with what your local autopart store has. Only when it comes to timing belt an waterpump is when you should absolutely consider OEM.

I always use Dayco or Gates for all my belt needs. More so Dayco if they have it in stock since its usa made and high quality

When did you do the timing belt last? If youre gonna do the tbelt, then do the water pump, cam seals, crank seal, tstat, idler pulleys, tensioner pulley and tensioner. everything that’s there..

Bando, Dayco, and Gates are all makers of OE belts for different car makers. You should be able to trust that they are quality

2016, I also did the belts back then, but I’m getting a chirping sound at start up in the mornings. So I’m gonna replace them since my friends is gonna do them while changing the power steering fluid. He’s only charging me a case or beer anyways

Prolly one of the belts just a lil bit loose. A lil snuggy snugging of the belt would likely take care of it, if the belts are that new.

I carried Gates and Dayco in my auto parts stores over the years, you can't go wrong with either one. Most important don't over tighten them as it's a leading cause of premature water pump, alternator and P/S pump bearing/seal failure.

That's a great friend to have, but how does that help you learn? I realize wrenching isn't for everyone, but if you're at all interested, you should take on the challenge. Maybe use your friend to help you but you turn the wrenches and gain experience. The sense of accomplishment of doing your own work is pretty cool and I know most people who do their own wrenching probably agree with me. Some people are reluctant DIY auto mechanics and are doing it just out of shear necessity because they don't have the money to pay a shop to keep their rig on the road. I'm obviously in the camp that looks forward to turning wrenches because I like to learn, I enjoy the challenge and I love the sense of accomplishment when the job is done.

It’s just that I’m paranoid and I don’t want to over tighten the belts. I heard that it would lead to more issues.

Texas should not be to bad here in the great liquid brine belt.

I ended up needing to replace all the adjuster hardware as even after liberal application of Kroil they all started to twist .

A short easy job turned into a 3 day project I will learn at some point don`t do these things in front of the garage door outside.
