So my 2012 V6 decided it was going to throw my serpentine belt on my way to work this morning. Not a huge deal, I made it in. Wife picked up a new belt and I will have the truck towed home after work.

Now, I am either going insane, or Toyota is a bunch of dicks. Every car I have had has the belt diagram somewhere in the engine compartment. I could not find it. Looked in the door james, nothing. Pulled out the factory manual, zip.

Sure, there is the Internet to find the correct way to run the belt, but why the hell would Toyota leave that VITAL piece of information off of the truck? What is the belt spun in the middle of nowhere?

Absolutely love out truck, but this is just dumb...unless I am being dumb and not seeing something right in front of my face.

For those of you that have tackled this belt replacement, what is the best way to go about it. From the engine bay above, or remove the skid plate(s), and go up from below ? I want to change mine out. No sign of cracking anywhere, but I'm hitting 80,000 miles this week and I'm on the original.

I always find myself going in from the top and the bottom. I usually begin the feeding and component connection at the top; then crawl underneath and do the same down there. Study the diagram before you start and while you're doing it. Once done, review your work again and be certain the orientation at each connecting point is correct.

It goes w/o saying the last place you'll connect to will be the tensioner.

OH SHIT! I am running the belt and the pull by the air compressor only runs ONE WAY! This would be idler 1 in the diagram. Is this SUPPOSED to be a uni-directiinal pully? I have never heard of such a thing.

Mystery solved. Seems I dropped a socket at some point and it landed between pully 1 and the engine block and lodged the pully. Seems like a one in a million drop, but that is what happened.

I did mine last weekend at about 95k miles. It seems to have eliminated the morning screeching noise I had.

The hard part was looking at the tablet picture while laying on my back under the engine. My brain refused to allow me to figure out the routing with looking at the tablet showing the pulleys reversed. So I set the tablet under the oil pan facing towards the radiator. Double checked from the bottom. Double checked from the top. A quick engine start and stop. Rechecked everything’s good.
