What are the differences (pros and cons) between KB Voodoo Fabrication's "Side Rail Cap System" and Relentless Fabrication's "Metal Bed Rail Caps?"

I'm looking to get a bed rack and ultimately a RTT, however I know the stock plastic caps tend to take quite the beating, as well as the metal underneath.

Any pointers, advice or comments are appreciated.

Note: Relentless' caps mount directly to the bed, while Voodoo's have a gasket "buffer." Will the underside be damaged without something in between? Also, I like how Relentless caps hang over the lip.

Thanks @tomwil however I was talking more about the bedside caps, not so much the tailgate caps, however I've looked at those too! Good info

Sorry, deleted the post. Saw the title "Tail Gate Caps" and replied, before actually noticing that the post was concerned with the bed side / bed rail caps.

    Paging @RearViewMirror

He has the setup you're describing Op, with KB VooDoo siderails and tailgate cap. I'm happy with my VooDoo rails and tailgate cap, but I don't have rack or RTT. I didn't research Relentless due to shipping cost limitations (Alaska problems). Good luck.

Was thinking about going this route. I have a bed rack but the plastic caps are cut/damaged and rust stained from previously having the rack on there without a proper paint job.

Moose gave the link to what mine look like installed.

I've been really happy with @KB Voodoo side rail system and tailgate top.

Here are a few pictures of the installation.

I ordered a set of Relentless Fab bars to go on top of it. If you go this route you will either have to drill new holes in the mounting plates or shim the bars as they were designed for the plastic bed rails. I drilled mine but it took titanium bits to drill through the metal.

Okay, that's about what I expected. No issues with drilling your own holes? The rack I'm thinking about going with can be sent with or without the mounting holes, and I don't think I trust myself to measure the height difference accurately enough for them to drill them for me-- so I was planning on just doing them myself. Thanks @RearViewMirror and nice truck!

No issues with drilling other than I had to go buy titanium bits. The metal is so strong that regular bits wouldn't go through. Measuring the height was easy. Center punch directly in the middle of the track and then drill a pilot hole then keep increasing the size until you get to the size you need. They are rock solid on top of the bed now. Much better than the plastic caps that were on there.

Love my KB's. The trucks should come like this.

I will mention that after adding the tailgate cap without a dampener on the tailgate, it drops like a frozen body. I know that bothers some people (mostly those with kids who are about an inch or two taller than the bumper)

I'v got Relentless bed rail caps and love them. I'm in and out of the bed of my truck all day, long grabbing heavy crap out of the boxes in there. My tool box was smashing my stock plastic caps to nothing, these have eliminated that.

All of these are held on by 3M double sided tape?

Negative! Voodoo's have double sided tape as a buffer to protect the bedrail, Relentless go directly on top. BOTH are bolted on

Yeah I started off with that but I think my bits were pretty worn. I needed a new set anyway and the DeWalt titanium bits weren't bad expensive.

Are you thinking you will be able to make a tailgate cap for the '16's with the new design? I would love to have a metal one so I can put a softtopper on and do the trick I've seen where people velcro magnets in place and use the metal cap to keep it closed as opposed to velcro on the tailgate. I had one on my '04 Tundra and that was the weak spot of the whole design.
