Don't have an owners manual. Googled and searched but have found everything from 500-2000 pounds! What's the limit we can put in our beds! Truck is a 2000 tacoma sr5 with a 2.4 automatic. Thanks!

    Half ton truck, right?
    Sure as heck isn't 2000#.

Now on the other hand, if it were made in China, it could be 2000#, as it might be a Won Ton....

    Not exactly.

Capacity varies by model... 4x4 is 100lbs lower, but these are from a mid-level model and are close enough to apply to any Tacoma:

    Curb weight: 4140
    GVWR: 5500
    GCWR: 8100/11,100
    Payload: 1360

    The payload is 1,360 pounds.
    This includes passengers.

If you have a doublecab with 4 passengers, you only have only 500-800 left for cargo.
If you have a doublecab with 4 Americans, you're probably already over gross :D

    That's for a 2nd Gen.
I'm having trouble finding the specs for the 1st Gen, but your owner's manual will have the numbers.

Subtract curb weight from Gross weight and that is your payload capacity, including passengers.

Still, closer to a half ton than to 3/4 ton or Won Ton.
Who the hell carries a scale around?

You know how much you weigh within 20 pounds.
You know how much your passengers weigh within 40 pounds.
Add another hundred or so for tools and the shit that piles up in the various storage areas of our trucks... more if you have armor.

So now you know about how much you should put in the bed.

You know how much that concrete or kitty litter weighs.

No scale needed... just do the math.

It can handle more than stated (as per safety factors). But it is a TERRIBLE idea to exceed the stated max - especially long distance.

True... I probably had 1500+ of concrete in my '03 Tundra.
But I felt it. The bed was on the bump stops and the front end was "loose"
Glad I was only going 3 miles.

Same. I had a ridiculous amount of gravel (either 1300 or 1700lbs, I can't remember) and only drove about a mile and a half. My truck was riding on bumpstops the whole way. And, to add insult to injury, my driveway is so stupidly steep that I had to use 4lo and reverse it up for max gearing...
