You know those two little storage areas on either side of a Tacoma's bed, in the vicinity of the rear wheel wells? Mine keep coming undone, and I find the door and the box's contents strewn throughout my truck bed all the time. Is there a way to keep the little doors in place?

Is someone going through them looking to steal stuff? I never had a problem with mine coming undone even off-road. Mobtown makes the ones that lock with a key if you want to go that route.

Really you just have to get new ones, hey wear out and don't bend back into place anymore. There are a few online ahops that sell high quality replacmenta. Mobtown off-road I believe does, they can be a bit pricey

I think there's some confusion. On earlier second gens, there's ones above the wheel wells that are utterly useless and tend to come undone. I believe that's what he's talking about.

It also says "vicinity of the rear wheel wells" and he has an 06, and those have a tendency to come loose. I haven't seen the actual doors coming off on the rearward most cubbies. So who knows.

If they are, it's a regular hobby for them. Happens all the time and all they ever find is bungee cords. So I'm thinkin' it's probably just that they're comin' loose.

You ain't kiddin' about pricey. $150 to replace the two little doors in the back? Man, that's a bit more than my moth-eaten wallet can cough up these days. I'm not stashing gold bullion back there. I think I better try and come up with some jerry-rigged velcro fix or something.

Sorry, talkin' about the storage areas with the doors.

I appreciate the quick feedback here. Now where's that velcro?

    This.

I recently had the same issue, I had overloaded the cubbie and somehow slightly bent the metal tabs that actually retains the door when closed. Every time i went into the bed one door was laying there and the contents were as well. Simply bend them back to the sweet spot and it outta be fine. They should more or less snap into vertical spot when closing. The locking replacement units are probably worth it if you're planning to run that truck for a while, or keep a lot of stuff in those cubbies.

There is a relatively easy DIY on here. Using the existing doors and some tool store stuff, they were done really well, almost looked OEM

If you find that the locking knobs are turning on their own (over bumps and such), take a phillips screwdriver and tighten the screw on the back of the knobs in the cover. Mine has this problem about once a year where they loosen and then will unlock and fall off.

    thanks for sharing those threads.

Interesting that they say to coat after install. Is that because you need to slide the boxes in the opening and the rubberized coating may be too thick and interfere? Did you coat yours?

If I were going with the painted steel inserts I'd get under there and see if the tire will sling water and stuff on it.

If so, I'd treat heavily from the wheel well and anywhere I could get to.
