I just picked up my Tacoma a few weeks ago and mine came with the optional bed step on the back. It collapses under the bumper. Does anyone actually use this? Full disclosure, I am 6'2.

I am considering selling it but wonder if anyone would even buy it.

Getting up into the bed without one is very difficult, for me. How does that step stow?

It collapses up to hug the rear bumper but it is super visible from behind the truck. Aesthetically it is very ugly and as someone that prefers symmetry it is weird having something on one side and not the other.

I have one, love it for everyday uses. If you go offroad a lot, lose it.

I don't really need it but my 4 yr old uses it all the time to get into the bed to help me with stuff. Once he doesn't need it anymore I may remove it.

I am use mine all the time. It actually sits above the lowest part of the hitch when stored. So it is perfect for dirt roads and turn rows and such. If I was to go to a off-road park or moab or something, I would remove it.

When I step up on it, it brings that whole side down a lot. This concerns me because it is the taco lean side which could only make it worse.

I have one and find it to be extremely useful. When the tailgate is down you have no step other than the tailgate.

If you are tall/flexible/young enough you likely won't see why anyone would want one of these. If you aren't 6'4", have seen a lot of summers come and go, and have acquired aches and pains from dirt bikes, skiiing, football, etc, they are a welcome addition.

However, be aware that Toyota and/or AMP Research DO NOT make a bed step for the 2016 and newer Tacoma. The ones you see are for the 2nd Gen, they will bolt right into place on a 3rd Gen, but when in the folded position, the footpad sits about 2.5" below the bumper. I have a fix drawn up, but haven't had the urge to complete it. When it's done, I'll post pics.

Not a Taco, and I'm short as fuck, so I use it constantly on my Tundra!!!

what? The bed step is specifically made for the 3rd gen. It matches the lines of the truck perfectly. It's even offered in the 2016+ Tacoma accessories page.

I would agree with you, but then we would both be wrong.

It bolts on, because the frame is pretty much the same as the 2nd Gen. It lines up within the footprint of the bed, but sits a lot lower than it does on the 2nd Gen in the folded position.

Call AMP Research and tell them you want a bed step for a 2016 Tacoma and report back what they tell you.

I put a tonneau cover on my bed so I won't crack the plastic bumper anymore than it already is climbing up in the bed. I probably should of just bought the folding step because I don't like how water pools up on my TruXedo Lo Pro. If I look out next spring and see a bird taking a bath on my tonneau cover it is coming off and going in the dumpster.
