Is there any actual reason, that it’s necessary to use the included hardware with bed racks? Basically could t-slots be used instead?

This isn’t a stock situation. I am asking if I can use basically what you have posted with bedracks that come with some other type of nut to slide into the rail.

    Non yet.
If you’re asking about the nuts themselves you should be able to use other ones that will slide into the rails. I have even made some to go into the slots. Just make sure it completely covers the slot opening.
