Curious if anyone has any pictures of a bed rack or pack rack that will fit AND still allow the Toyota OEM toolbox to remain functional. Not looking for headache racks.

In short...I'd like to mount a rooftop tent, but still keep my truck box for storage (and the lid still needs to open). I'm thinking I may need to have one built, but checking here first.

    Toyota offers an OEM toolbox?
EDIT: Apparently so. Part #PT767-35050, right?

    How about the KBVoodoo rack?
    http://www.kbvoodoo.com/shop/premium-bed-rack
The Tall model is 18'' over the bed rails.

EDIT to EDIT: You have the long bed, so maybe buy the short bed rack (46''), snug it up as far back towards the tailgate as it will go? The toolbox is 66 x 25 x 15.6'', so a tight fit, but the long bed is at least 72'' right? Tight fit for sure, an inch to spare.

    Yes, gonna be super tight.

I was also thinking I may be able to utilize the AP pack rack and notch the inside of the vertical bracket that mounts to the bed. This would allow me to slide the rack closer to the cab and allow the box to sit just in front of the rack....maybe it would open just fine?

Looks like the AP rack can be ordered at 19" height from the top of the bed rails. The truck box lid fully opened measures 22". Accounting for the 1-3/4" steel tube it would seem that the clearance below the 19" rack would be 17-1/4". So the lid wouldn't open alllllll the way, but I don't see that being a deal breaker. Thoughts?

So, slight problem. Your bed rails are only 70'' long from the front to back. 24'' of that has to go to the toolbox and it's overhangs. You might be able to fit a 46'' rack, but juuusst barely.

Just measured the toolbox and it measures about 21"...so there's that.

Okay, so 21'' to the toolbox, 46'' to the rack. That's 67''. That should be doable. It all comes down to how far you can open that lid.

For sure. Also came across these bars, which would be a good solve too.

If those are high enough, they're way cheaper. How much spacing between bars will you need to stably mount an RTT ?

Maybe someone with a RTT can chime in here, but most of the widths I'm seeing are about 48". So I would imagine the mount spacing would be less than that. Maybe 36" center to center?

I sampled some RTTs from a google search.

    http://www.bigfoottents.com/roof-top-tent-car-top-campers.html

Bigfoot RTT (no relation, I assume?) comes in at

    Weight Height Width Depth
    116 13" 56" 46"

    while closed.

    https://tepuitents.com/collections/roof-top-tents/products/kukenam-sky-roof-top-tent#

    Tepui Kukenam SKY
    Size (Closed) 56" x 48" x 12" (WxLxH)

    https://cascadiatents.com/shop/mt-rainier-roof-top-tent/
    Cascadia Mt. Rainer
    Size (Closed)
    72" wide x 48" long x 15.5" tall

I thin the Rainer is too long, but I threw it in there anyway. 36'' or maybe 40'' between bars for the first two seems alright. Hopefully someone more qualified than myself can chime in.
