    uhhhh....dog fur?
Okay, probably going to get railed at for this, but I have gone through a lot of the forum and unless I missed it am not finding a good discussion on bed racks for long things...

    eC0OfZbe1mKT6Y2hO--oT6Eu9wdnp-uX2a-D7dPT_a80d7220537e7562462e04da1ed896961c66ecc8.jpg
This is where I came from...2006 baja that I loved but it needed work.

So, now I have a 2017, short bed double cab instead and I still need to be able to carry these hulls or a canoe or the SUP boards.

I like some of the bed racks that are available in here, but it seems that they are not tall enough to get up over the cab (RCI), I like the look of the taller Voodoo rack, but not certain if it is available much longer?

my needs are simple: I need to be able to mount my Malone Gull wings to hold the boats and stuff. I have Yakima attachments from over the years for other activities.
I want the hulls up and over the cab, prefer not to put a roof rack on the cab as it is a leased truck, so bed rack would be best in my opinion.
I do not need an excessive weight limit, I am not putting a bed tent up on this, just need height to get the length....

I wish that I had space for a trailer and the boats could just go on that, but any good storage space for a trailer is over an hour away for me.

    Thoughts? anyone?
    Kayaks are 18' & ~22-24" wide
SUP boards are 11' and 34"
    Canoe...well...it is a big a$$ canoe............

    Good winds

We have a new rack coming out that will be exactly what you're looking for. We will have pics of the prototype in a few days.

As stated by @Skell , this is the general design of the rack they’re custom making for me. It’ll be high enough to carry things that extend over the cab

image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg Our (dissent offroad) rack is over cab height an will allow longer items and still clear the shark fin.
It is designed so the cab rack will set at the same height as the bed rack if desired, however does not need the cab rack to carry long items.
The rack is made entirely from aluminum with all hardware pressed into the rack.
Weighs in at only 44lbs for the short bed. Intagrated tiedown points are cut into the base rail and the side skirtings. I have many accessories in the works as well. It will fit over a softtopper and there are optional side door accessory mount.
Let me know if you have any questions.

The problem you are going to run into is reaching your straps. Any higher volume boat will be a tough reach with an over cab set up. After running it I think it's the best set up since your long boats don't stick out the ends. A rack over the bed makes easy reaching and if over cab Hullivators are great for easy strapping. Here is a clean set up but it does require trimming the rubber strip. http://www.rhinorack.com/en-us/prod...t600-ditch-mount-black-2-bar-roof-rack_ja8414 I guess you can just remove the rubber completely like I did though.

This is my set up https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/my-kayak-transport-set-up.491099/

And here is a thread with all the other guys https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/whats-your-kayak-set-up.453802/

    Nice looking boats there BTW.

I use this hitch extender for my 14' canoe and 12' kayak. You can't mount standard roof racks to it but can easily strap it down to it. It's also 1/5 of the price, incredibly easy, fast and doesn't hit your gas mileage much on highway trips. 18' would probably need to sit right side up.IMG_9933.jpgIMG_9931.jpg

This is why I have a bar at the bottom of my rack, climb up on the tailgate then you can safely transverse the length of the bed from an elevated position to get to straps and whatnot.

You can reach the straps by using a milk crate to stand on. This is what I did when I needed to strap down my sea kayak to my Yakima rack system that I had mounted on a Leer topper.

The Thule xsporter has been great for me. Usually has the kayak on but fits the 17' canoe with the paddle board next to it.
