Bed mat or bed rug

I want to put either the bed mat or bed rug in my 2021 Tacoma. Any recommendations for one or the other ?

 

Bed mat for sure.

 

Bed mat you can take out and pressure wash off. You're never going to get all the gear oil out of your bed carpet.

 

I have the factory mat, it’s nice but currently on my garage floor. I have the bedmat xlt rug the just covers the bottom and the tailgate. It’s nice with the carpeted cap. Also have the complete bedrug I might swap to (warehouse deals for $200 couldn’t pass it up). If I didn’t have a cap and hauled more dirty stuff I’d just go with the factory mat. For making the bed better for sleeping in the carpet is nice and adds some insulation. Bed rug can be pressure washed though too.

Bed mats are cheaper. When i ordered my 2020 i requested the bed mat. It holds things fine from sliding around. Buddy of mine bought a gator bed mat for for his 2019 trd, its quite a bit less, and had free shipping. I checked it out....it fits perfect and looks fine.

 

I had a BedRug in my '05 Ranger for 13+ years. It held up nicely except the spot in the middle the that got wore out from me starting my weedeater in the bed of my truck over all those years.

I considered getting just the BedRug for just the tailgate on my Tacoma, but didn't buy when I found out it doesn't have the form-fitting backside to go into the grooves of the tailgate. Without the foam ridges on the underside, it won't have that nice level padded benefit that the BedRug for the whole truck bed does.

My Tacoma came with the OEM Bed Mat. Pretty happy with that. Nice and grippy.

This. I had a full bed rug, but removed it after it became a pain in the butt to clean (I haul dirt and gravel quite often).
I installed a bed mat, but kept the tailgate portion of the bed rug. It's easier on the knees, but still a pain to clean. It
also has a tendency to freeze when wet/damp, making the tailgate harder to open and close.

IMO...Bed rug if you have a topper and bed mat if you don't.

My Taco came with a bed rug that just covers the bottom and tailgate. I like that it covers the gap between the bed and tailgate, and it does a good job of keeping stuff from sliding around too much. But it does hold onto water that leaks in past the tailgate/tonneau cover. However, that may not be as big of an issue once it warms back up.

Rubber mat for sure. It can get wet, easy to clean, and it keeps things from sliding around. I found an offbrand one on Amazon for $90 shipped, but if your handy, you can buy a roll of rubber mat from Home Depot for probably half the price and just use a box cutter to cut around the wheel well.

 

OEM rubber mat for sure. I can't even imagine how nasty a carpeted mat get's in the bed of a truck.

I have an OEM rubber matt in my '2018 TRD Sport and one that's 24 years old in my '96 Tacoma. Try getting a carpeted mat to last 25% of that amount of time.

 

I don't understand the bed rug thing. I never heard of it till I joined this forum.

Legit question, why do you want a bed rug? Seems like it would be a pain in the nuts.
