My stock steel rims on my 2012 Tacoma have seen better days I’ve had the truck for a year and they came in rough shape. No major curb rash or dents or anything just peeled paint and some rust. I seen some videos and photos of people using bed liner instead of paint. Has anyone had experience with this or see issues? Thanks.

In my opinion, you might be better off just sanding it down and rattle canning it. SEM trim paint, lays down real smooth and has great UV protection if you want to do satin black.

@dwilliams81 maybe consider an aluminum wheel option. No rust and less weight. Just a thought.

Sounds like a backwoods flipper approach to me. And I thought plasti-dip was weak sauce.

Spend some time. Clean, sand, prime, paint.

Or look for a nice set of 2nd or 3rd gen alloy take offs local to you.

@Clearwater Bill i wasn’t gonna use plasti dip that stuff sucks in my opinion especially on rims. I was gonna do bed liner rough texture stuff. I think im gonna sand down and just paint as it’ll be a cheaper option as buying rims. Even a used set in my area is crazy high with inflation lol. I appreciate your opinion though thanks for the reply.

I’ve never used it on wheels, but I just sprayed my Nfab rock rails with Rustoleum bed liner and was really happy with the results. It dries with a textured semi-gloss finish that I think would look good on wheels. Thought about using black bumper paint, but I’m not a fan of the flat finish. The key is in surface preparation and taking your time.
