I bought an SR5 from dealer stock with the exterior appearance package that includes the OEM extender. It's one of those accessories I don't think I'd ever buy because (for me, at least), it's kind of a unitasker.

I'm just curious as to how many folks have the extender and actually use it regularly.

I hate that I am having to get a short bed in the new truck and am also considering a bed extender, not sure how useful it would be either.

I have one.. It looks great. I have used it once.. And that was to disconnect it so I could put stuff in the bed and close the tailgate normally.

I have a tonneau cover and a bed extender. It comes in handy to use the area like a trunk. The bed extender keeps stuff from rolling around. I also loop grocery bag handles on it to keep stuff from falling out of the bags.
I have helped people move and it comes in handy for that. Overall I am glad that I have it.

I added one to mine. I have a tonneau cover and like being able to open the tailgate and put groceries in without them going to the front of the bed. I also added a bed mat and that helps just as much.
Sometimes it's a pain having to open the cover to put bigger stuff in though.
The kids really like riding in the back under the cover and having the bed extender gives me peace of mind that they won't fall out.

I bought one for my 1st gen about 3 years ago. I have had multiple motorcycles over the years and it's awesome for bikes because they're longer than the 6' bed. I've used the extender to haul lumber, construction waste, all kinds of stuff. It's great when it's inside the bed with the tailgate closed too cuz u can use it to seperate things in the bed. I've used it while camping and put all the firewood in behind the bed extender to keep it away from the rest of my gear. Needless to say I love my bed extender and have used it many times!

I hadn't considered that use of it. When I get my tonneau cover, that will make it more useful. It'd be better if it were the older style with 90 degree bends, but it's the newer angled one, so that "trunk" space is somewhat limited.

They they changed the design because it was blocking the view of the tailgates. Safety first I guess.
I find that I use it more in the stowed position then with the tailgate down.

Very useful if you have the soccer mom double cab short bed and want to use the bed for Truck duty.
