I replaced my Tacoma OE battery after 4 years. Replaced my wife's Avalon battery after 5 years. Neither had died, but eventually they would so why worry.

This is a battery built for Toyota. Toyota True Start 7 years (84months). MSRP-$157.99
The first 24 months any battery failure , free replacement and free towing to the nearest Toyota dealer (warranty).
3-7& years if any battery failures battery will be pro-rated.

Costco battery’s I believe is a 3-year battery. I really like the prices and service from Costco Auto center. Approx $110.00 cheaper with core returns?

If the battery last 7 years? Change once every 7 years vs Costco replacing every three years + you are buying twice $220.00 if the prices remain the same after 7 years.
Toyota battery part number: 0054427060675 -84 months (7 years)

After a few research, Toyota True start cranking amps is only 575 cranking amps vs Costco 700 cranking amps meaning.
The higher the cranking amps is better for colder weather.

lots of bad reviews on the Toyota true start, lots of failures after 2-3 years. Poor warranty service. Plus you need to pay the dealer to install the battery to quality for the warranty. That labor cost could buy you another Costco battery.

Looks like I am heading to Costco Interstate 36 month, 700 cranking amps battery. DIY project.
I was originally excited when I heard of Toyota is designing a battery for there needs. Toyota is going “CHEAP “ again on there parts.

Is Toyota losing its “Quality “”? I am finding a few things that they should not be cutting back on…

I believe the OEM battery is a different battery than the TrueStart which is a rebranded Interstate per the local Toyota dealership here in town. They are delivered on the interstate trucks.

Interstate , and truestart are made by the same manufacturers (johnson ) but different specs. There are only three major batteries manufacturers who make all the brands out there in the markets.

The reviews for Truestart are not very good. Plus only 525 cranking amps. Cold weather prefer higher cranking amps. interstate also makes a 84 month battery. Costco only sells a 36 month battery.

To get the warranty on the battery the Toyota dealer needs to install the Truestart battery. ( costing you a labor charges). Most of us can replace our own batteries. I will stay with interstate.

I am always looking for better….I have bring using Interstate for over 30 years. I use to live by a Interstate driver who bring the interstate truck home. I use to buy direct in those days.

I installed my own and was told it didn't make any difference who installed it. I did the 27F and I'm happy with it.

I am guessing this return policy may vary dealer to deader? Or The local dealer is trying to force you to get the battery install by there mechanics charging for labor cost.

What is the actual policy? UM?

Be careful at Costco, the 100$ Interstate they advertise isn't even an MT or MTP, it's the base option "I" . That 100$ sign is just to get you in the door.

We stock the MT and MTP, won't even mess with the economy line. Honestly you have to spend at least 150 to get into anything worthwhile

bro you just ate whatever Toyota put in your plate. the battery they pun in any car is a compromise between what the vehicle needs and complying with the specification of the available Group (size).

Ok? About Truestart..I am staying away and will only buy interstate batteries.

I found the only difference of Costco interstate is the warranty programs. And yes interstate do offer a more heavier duty battery? Many different applications, hence different interstate batteries.

Costco does offer a superior warranty on there batteries. Costco can be trusted. Yes only 36 months is offer.
I prefer Interstate 84 month battery. I had one the lasted 7 years.

I've been thinking about replacing my AGM battery with a lithium battery (LiFePo4 chemistry). Are there any good in-depth threads that cover the ins and outs of converting to lithium battery? Is it just a drop-in replacement or are there other things to consider?

My Blacker & Decker battery charger has a RECON feature. I just use it on a UTV battery. That tested too weak. It works.

This feature brings old batteries back to life.

2nd gen tacoma came with a 27F then some of the early 3rd gen tacoma also came with a
27F but somewhere in there they change to a 24F. I believe as a costing saving issue. People
who change to the 27F buy a 2nd gen plastic battery tray. Somewhere in here someone post
the correct toyota part number. I bought one for when my battery dies.
