My True Start OEM lasted 7 1/2yrs. Died last summer and couldn't find a 27F anywhere local. Called the dealer and fortunately had 1 in stock. $125 out the door.

27F is a common battery, the F stands for Ford! The negative and positive are reversed as apposed to a group 27.

not sure I buy that. The F I always thought was for flat terminal posts. If it had an R in there that meant reversed polarity on the post locations.

Wow ! How do we resolve this one ? I'd really like to see a link to somewhere on Johnson Control maybe that would answer this one. Ford or Flat ??

How about "The “F” and “R” designations on batteries indicate the terminal layout of the battery. The dimensions of a 24, 24F, or 24R battery are always the same. The “F” and “R” in these battery designations stand for “flat-top battery” and “reverse polarity,” respectively."

Nope it been like that for eons the standard 27 and the 27F are essentially identical except for the reversed + and -

And the stock cables aren’t long enough to reach a group 27

Don't recall what the H stood for but you see what I was talking about, back in the day Ford batteries + and - were reversed as apposed to every one else hence the F.

You don’t want to do this unless you have an AGM. Doing this on a lead acid battery will overcharge the battery and cause early failure. The ideal value is +0.5v, using +0.7v will be too much even for an AGM. Also note that 3rd Gen has no Alt-S return circuit to modify.

I got 4 years out of my OEM battery here in the central south. It was that oddball size that was like ~1 inch shorter than the typical spec and I had to buy new brackets when I put in a replacement battery (Sams Club Duracell).

    Strange. My wife's 2005 Rav4 lasted 11 years. I got a little more than 10 from mine..both Panasonics.

It's not strange. You appear to live in MA. Heat is what kills batteries and if you don't live in a hot area (like the south) then your batteries will last longer.

My original OEM battery lasted 7 years and died in 2017. I replaced it with Autozone's Duralast Gold ad it's still going strong. My wife's 2013 Rav4 is still on the original OEM battery. In June it'll be 10 years.

This is true that your area will kill a battery quicker all other things equal..hadn't looked your location at first.

That said, our winters place more strain on them than the other seasons especially since my vehicles aren't garaged. So many of them will croak that time of year. Mine gave up one January and that sucked..because it took me an hour to open the hood after the ice and snow storm the previous day. Hair dryer was employed vigorously in the driveway. Got it boosted but turning it off would make it drop again.

Come to think of it, my wife's battery died that one time and jumped right up. I knew we'd had the vehicle a few years and she said she'd feel better with a new battery since she worked nights at the time. Perhaps there was more life in that one haha

I use the 24F battery. Has a higher CCA capacity in general.

My Exide has served me well. I would not hesitate to buy another :)

Does anyone run replacement drop-in lithium batteries? Like Dakota Lithium, etc?

If so, what make & model? What sort of climate? How long have you been running it? How has it been working out?

Well Saturday I bought a new modification for the Tacoma replace the original battery which is 9 years old with a Duracell picture attached the battery works for me I don't do any off-roading and very little Towing but this one actually went up to over 840 cold cranking apps over the originals 710 so we'll see how it works out I can tell you this already the door beep is actually louder now the only problem with the installation is the original battery hold down has one fixed attachment and it was slightly too short so I've used a part that I picked up from Nuno couple years ago which is the old battery hold down holder and just modified it so I can get the longer attachment had to rethread it cut off the excess works perfect
I got a lower price on this because I'm a veteran was only 10% but covered the core charge for the day when I take the battery back, I'll get the $20 on that so that's a $40 savings on my part so it worked out well for me.
    Purchased at Battery+Bulbs
