I have the 10s platinum that came with the wireless controller. My issue is the battery in the thing only lasts for a few days to a week before having to recharge it. I don’t use it often, so it’s dead every time I go to use it.

I went to warn first and they replaced the whole remote, but the same issue remains and now I’m out of warranty.

Anyone having similar issues? I’ve looked for other battery options that fit IN the case and can’t find any. My current workaround is to carry one of those power blocks, that people use for cell phones, to provide power to the unit.

This sucks, really, I hate wireless and battery anything. Can you plug it directly to the winch? I know on the Smitty X20 connects directly or use it remotely

No. I’m guessing they sell a wire hookup, but I don’t want it. I’m starting to wonder if this isn’t an issue for anyone else, or simply no one else owns this thing. I don’t see much on these, good or bad, on any forum.

I thought Warn had lifetime warranty? I’d pressure then into giving you a new remote. That’s a $1800+ winch

They may, I thought it was a year. I already did one swap with them before I opened up the remote to see the battery. It’s similar to one of those shit batteries you would stick into a $15 Amazon RC helicopter. Searching the part number on the battery yields just one result from alibaba.

I believe they tried to keep the remote small and simply used the wrong battery, another new remote with the same battery isn’t going to help, it’s a design flaw in my opinion.

They should have just AAA’d this thing. I wouldn’t even mind a couple of C’s hanging off of it if it meant I didn’t have to worry about keeping it charged multiple times a week.

What space in the controller is available? would it fit an 18650? easiest way to measure would be to pack it full of playdough, close it up, and measure the size of the dough that comes out.. if it'll fit a 18650 theyre pretty cheap 3.7v, and some hold closer to 2200-5000mah... just get name brand, samsung, or panasonics (LOTS OF FAKE/RE-BRANDS OUT THERE) you can even get a 18650 holder.. or find a larger capacity 3.7v cell with say 2000mah... just look for a 3.7v 3pin lithium battery like this.... https://www.amazon.com/AOTU-1500mAh...n+battery,+3+wire&qid=1571422509&sr=8-11&th=1

nearly double the capacity... just have to find something that will fit in the case, and same voltage.. I doubt the charging circuit is smart enough to know the batteries capacity.. it just charges until it sees 3.7v from the cells off the 5v USB cable.... that controller probably sat in a box on a cold warehouse shelf for a year or more before you bought it.. li-ion has a shelf life...

I have a 12-s with remote, my remote would eat a battery in less than 2 weeks. It uses the A23 battery, I keep the battery out and install if I use the remote, hard wire most of the time. Carry 2 spares also.

Does it have an off switch, or a sleep mode or something?

Even a crap battery should last several weeks of non-use. Sounds like this thing is constantly connecting and draining itself = lame design.

How does it charge? with a USB port? If so, just plug it in when you're on the trail.

    Yay, cheap chinese electronics.

My solution would be to add an external switch so you can disconnect the battery when not in use. Or maybe duct tape an RC car battery to it

How long does it run from a full charge?

No off switch, you can power it off electronically on the display. It has to be draining itself somehow. It has a micro usb hookup to charge it.

You’re right, I could charge it on the trail if I’m expecting to use it, but I go weeks without using it and would like to use it when not expecting to need it also.

Less than a week and it’s dead, not sure actual runtime. I carry a battery pack with me for a workaround.

    16500 doesn’t fit

can you take a pic of the remote with the a23 in it. I don’t think mine would fit that battery, I think you may have a different remote

Have the same issue, DOA when I go to use it. Maybe they have a quality issue on the battery. I just had the switch on the control fall apart in my hand when I just went to switch it. Called warn. After a few forgetful moments at Warn they sent me a new control.

Just plug it in as part of your routine for getting ready for a trip, or plug it in in the morning. Unless you end up winching 10 minutes into your trip, it should have enough charge to keep you going.

It automatically powers on when you start charging it, so I’d have to power it off every time. If it didn’t do that I could just keep it on charge in the console.

But yah I get it, I can avoid any issues by charging it every single day.

I hate that. Just one more thing to do. You'd think modern technology would make things simpler.

I remember a time when you could pack for a wheelin' trip and didn't have to worry about the charge state of 65 different batteries

Quality electronics do make things easier. These aren't quality.

I think I'd just Velcro a battery pack to the back of it or cut the battery wire and install a slide switch.

Or throw it through warn's front window.

How about asking Warn for a solution or class action claim and get free winches for all.. just kidding, I would like a solution that works. The battery does not drain when not used. The switch thing is not too far off the mark.

I’m having this same issue. New poster here because I’m a Jeep guy, but this is the only thread I could find about this problem. Did anyone figure out a solution? I will be calling Warn tomorrow also.

I will call Warn and ask the guy that helped me as I had the switch on my control fall apart and they sent me a whole new control unit. The claim was strait forward as I just had to provide the pictures and the receipt.
