    hey guys,

turned up to my truck after work and tried to start it. Had rapid clicking so thought it was the battery. I then tried to jump it and nothing, no crank no click no nothing. I have checked fuses, I have checked the starter relay, I've checked for loose terminals. I'm pretty certain the anti-theft system has immobilized the truck. I've tried turning the key on and off 5 times (apparently it sometimes works), Tried starting and leaving the key in for 10 mins. I have tried unlocking and locking via the door with out the key fob.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to override or reset the immobilizer? i believe its the factory anti-theft system.

Does the red security light flash when the key is in the ignition?

The security system does not control cranking, it controls injectors. So even with the wrong key, it will crank.

It sounds like a battery, possibly shorted.

If the factory immobilizer on the Taco is similar to my 4Runner, the engine will fire up then immediately turn off.

If you got the rapid clicking and then it would not turn over either you starter is dead or the jump did not have a good connection.

Does the engine rotate when you jump it and turn the key?

As Dm93 said, unless you have an aftermarket alarm.
The factory immobilizer will let you crank the truck.
It won’t start, but you can crank it all you want, or until the battery dies:eek:

So looked around and I believe I have an aftermarket system, bought the truck with it a year or so ago. I'm going to try contact the owner and see if I can find out which alarm it is and go from there. Thank you guys.

One obscure thing I've seen is GPS lock outs hidden on high risk credit purchases, they disable the truck remotely, the only problem is they tend to fail over time, and they are super hidden.

I’ve heard of times someone buys a vehicle, doesn’t know it has an aftermarket alarm which is set to valet or passive mode. Meaning the alarm is turned off, like it has no alarm. Disconnecting the battery causes it to default alarm on. Without the remote, it won’t start until disarmed.
