Trying to look for a replacement battery. Mine is dead after only three years. I know nothing about batteries. Everything I find is about upgrading to dual battery systems. I just need a replacement but I don’t want some junk battery that’s going to die out in a short time. Any advice?

I have put the Autozone Duralast Gold on most of my vehicles over the years. Never had a problem. Spent more money on Exide AGM but it didn't last long at all. Maybe a year. Had interstate before and it was fine but its just easier to find Duralast.

Find an AGM battery in your price range, the Parts store Platinum AGMs are fine. AGM batteries are sealed batteries, look em up they are nice upgrades.

Yeah, If your truck’s electrical system is stock, go to Walmart and pick a cheap 3yr warranty battery that matches CCAmp spec on the owners manual. If it’s a little over, say 10-25 CC amps its ok it’s great, but anything crazy above maybe a liability specially in hot humid climates.

Also look at the manufacturing date, and pick the latest\newest one.

As soon as you get it home, if you have a hydrometer check it to make sure you don’t have a dud. You can purchase a cheap one ($8-12) at any auto parts store and it’s not rocket science to use. Then put the battery on a trickle charger till the next day.

Also before installation, apply a bead of black RTV silicone sealer at the base of the battery post, where the post meets the plastic battery housing, and you should stay clear of corrosion for at least couple years provided all else is working as it should.

Moreover, It should last as long as the more expensive 5yr kind with mega CC amps if you maintain it by topping off the water levels & trickle charge it every month or two.

And if you check the cells with the hydrometer at maintenance time, it will also tell you when you need to replace it before you hear the dreaded click, click on a cold dark rainy night.

Hope that helps and its not TMI or PITA.

    Cheers

I just get whatever is available at Autozone at the mid-to-higher end price point. Makes it very simple. Never had a problem, and usually get 3+ years easily, even with our 100+ degree summers.

If you need a bit of deep cycle power and excellent CCA, look at the AGM's. Northstar is the favorite right now or the Batteries + rebranded X2 version (same battery, different name). 24F will fit perfectly, and the bigger more powerful 27F will fit with a new base plate. There are a few maintenance items with AGM's such as occasionally putting them on a charger or adding a voltage regulator to boost the charging amps of the alternator but a small price to pay for the advantages of the completely sealed AGM. And then there is the cost which is 2x a lead acid battery. Pretty good lead acid batteries are the Die Hards and Duracell. Or you could just get one at Walmart or Costco (Costco sells the Interstate 24F for under $100) with a 36 month warranty. Let your wallet be your guide.

I've had autozone duralast gold batteries before. They served me well, and autozone honors their warranty. They usually last me 5 years or so?
    I would buy again.

same thing here at a little over two years. i had one week or so left on my warranty, Toyota said they would replace it under warranty, and i declined that so i wouldn't have more junk.

    this one:
    - top performer, tried & true
    - plug & play with your current tray
    - no added weight. much more performance than the stock unit
    - expensive. worth it.

Costco 24f. Unless you live where it gets really really hot or cold it should last you 3-4 years.

Wally World batteries are probably fine too, I think they are both made by Johnson Controls.

Believe it or not, the large majority of car batteries are manufactured by only 2-3 companies. Then re-branded/labeled. I have had great luck with batteries from Walmart. The value 24f at walmart is $49.99. I have had one in my 4runner for going on 3 years. I go camping and never had an issue. Just my experience.
